Chatting with a coworker and this topic came up. I'm not really superstitious but do have 3 or 4 big ones I take pretty seriously and a few minor ones. Anyone else?

    1. Chip bags etc must always be opened at the top. Never open the bottom.

    2. No bananas on boats.

    3. If a new fishing rod or net hasn't caught or landed a fish within 3 trips, it's "unlucky".

    4. Never walk under a ladder. More of a safety thing, but I simply won't do it even if there is nothing or nobody on the ladder.

It dates back centuries as a seafaring supetstition.

    https://www.outdoorcanada.ca/yes-we-have-no-bananas/

Personally, I've never caught fish with a banana on board. Whether that has to do with the fish or the fact there's never a banana on board is open for debate. :duel:

On the practical front, mosquitoes are attracted to potassium, which bananas are loaded with. I hate skeeters...

Never fart with headphones on is kind of my new years resolution but maybe it fits here.

Never give a wallet as a gift if it is empty.

Some things I have grown up with are almost more ritualistic habits from old wives tales or just plain preference.

    Don't step on cracks.

When I lock a door, i immediately try to open it to be sure.

Do two quick revs before engaging first gear and releasing clutch.

When I find packages on the porch, it's bad luck not to hide them from the wife.

If you flush the toilet as you're leaving the house, you have to wait until you are sure it's done filling before leaving.

When leaving, I have to wait until the garage door shuts and also take a second look to make sure. If I start driving and can't remember if I took the second look, I will turn around and drive home to check.

Hold the 'door close' button on the elevator until it reaches my floor. i never know if it works, only when it doesn't.

when possible, back into parking stalls (more of a safety thing, but now i'm convinced i'll back into someone when i leave if i don't)

always turn off the heat/ac before shutting off the ignition

white letters in to reduce drag

cream first, then sugar, and stir at least five times longer than necessary

when deleting search history, always close chrome/safari, reopen, and start typing in the last thing searched to see if it still remembers

when grouping things, always try for groups of seven. it's God's number of completion.
