My sales rep last week told me Toyota makes one to replace the center console top pocket. Parts told me today that’s true but only on some years and 2018 isn’t one of them.

So looking after-market. I see lots of options. Anyone have a preference or recommendation? My two priorities are fastest possible charging and looking as OEM as possible.

That's not true. Mine is an 18 and I have it in my truck. Works perfect. Look at sparksparts.com. They sell them. Look on the back of your console. If there is 12volt port there. Then it will work. Takes about 30 mins. to install.

The OEM Toyota console one will work, but it's 10 watts. Your phone is most likely capable of 15 watts. If it were me I'd just use the Apple Mag Safe and call it good. Belkin makes some nice ones as well.

The OEM Toyota one will work on your truck. Your dealer is incorrect. It just won't charge as fast as your phone is capable of.

Interesting. sparksparts has the wireless charging tray, but says it is not compatible with my 2018 (which is a 1794 Edition, specifically). I have a 12volt back there. Why the heck would it not be compatible with mine?

It also says at the bottom that iPhone 12 may not work with it...that would be problematic.

I have a 2018 1794 and it works perfect on mine. I will never turn to the Dark Side of IOS. But normally when my golfing buddies are in the truck. They use it with their IPhones and have no issues.

This is helpful, thank you. I admit to being super picky; I despite cords and cables dangling around my car, so I'm not inclined to use a MagSafe or another standard charger.

Yes, iPhone 12 and 12 Pro (mine is a 12 Pro) finally added 15w support.

Maybe I can find an after-market one that supports 15w. Or is the limitation in the vehicle wiring?

The cool thing with the OEM MagSafe charger is it's small and discreet, and your phone sticks to it REALLY well. You could probably easily glue or tape it somewhere, hide the cord, then slap the phone right on it, and it will never move.

The vehicle wiring can support the 15 watt charger. I have a 45 watt charger for my Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Ok...stupid question alert...but I do freaking foreign policy and strategic analysis. I don't do mechanics and electricity :help:

Not knowing the difference between amps, watts, and volts.... How many watts can I run off of a standard 12 volt DC socket? I presume the wireless charger (whether Toyota's or an after market's) taps into the 12 volt socket on the back of the center console rather than running direct to the battery.

I received mine today from Sparks and it will be going into my '21. Brochure says 7.5w for iPhone.

IIRC, the iPhone small wall chargers are 5w and take hours for a full charge. The iPhone will handle a max of 18w which cuts charging to about 2hrs. If this delivers 7.5w, I should have no issues keeping my iPhone 11 charged. As always, YMMV.

Depends on how many amps the fuse is it's connected to.
10 amps is about 120 watts
    20 is about 240 watts
Those are estimates because the electrical system is seldom exactly 12v.

That's also the max load of the circuit and doesn't account for what else might be drawing power.

So if we assume the fuse for that 12v on the back of the center console is only 10 amps... If I'm inferring correctly, I can run my own 15 watt iPhone charger PLUS 2 more 15 watt chargers in the back seat (tapping into the same 12v socket) simultaneously and all will still charge at full speed? (15*3=45 watts = no where close to 120)

I'm running this one in my front socket. It's 78 watts, and I max it out.

That’s actually the same one as I linked to but branded differently. Look at the photos; identical.
So how well does it charge? Especially curious if you’re on an iPhone 12 or 13 and actually getting the super fast 15w charging.

I still have a stone age Iphone 8.
Seems to charge at about same rate as when plugged into A/C. The blue light bar that indicates charging is a little too bright but I can live with it and I really like not having a cord flopping about…
    I rate it an 8.5

… the wife’s 12 charges without issues. I would not say superfast for either phone.

One of these is on my short list for sure. For those who don’t like cables sticking out there is also a wireless CarPlay dongle that can be installed pretty easily using one of the USB ports in the front. Then you’d have 0 wires.

I have an iPhone 13 pro and am experiencing issues with the OEM wireless charger from SE Toyota. It seems to work for ~5-10 minutes and then I get the red error message indicating metal/magnetic object, overheating, or incompatible phone. This was while using a MagBak case. I have also tried without any case and a Rockform case. Seems to be due to metal ring of MagSafe on phone or large camera bump if these newer models. I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this or has a possible solution. Definitely 1st world problems lol…

Wondering if there is a workaround for this as well. I’ve noticed that it’s not just my trucks wireless charging that has an issue now. Had a wireless charger in my house that no longer works with my iPhone 12. Both were working flawlessly before upgrading

My Galaxy S10+ phone case won't allow wireless charging. I just saw this charger and thought it was a good option for those that don't want to get the one for the arm rest.

This charger worked great with my iPhone 8 Plus, I upgraded to a 13 Pro Max and it now laughs at me and is useless. It will work for a minute then foul out. I just have to plug in the charger cord now.

Didn't see your post before I quoted someone else, yeah, my 13 Pro Max doesn't work on the OEM Charger, acts like how you described, I've tried
several different cases and no case. I've just resorted to plugging mine back in. OEM is only good for 7.5 watts.

Has anyone tried this? Seems like the phone sliding around in the tray may be causing issue. Might try holding it like this guy suggests to see if it helps. If it does, something rubber to hold it still may do the trick.

first time I've seen that video, makes sense, sometimes mine works but mine will still foul out sitting still. One member suggested an insert, i ordered it and it still didn't work.
