Just thought I’d post this for anyone thinking about doing this.

A relatively cheap mod($37) to make our trucks look a little more modern. Although going from a OEM antenna to this 4” one cuts your am/fm reception by about 75% (in my experience). It looks cool, and most people listen to some other form of music in their trucks now day through their phone. The company, Ronin Factory, also gives you the chance to win an insane Ford Raptor or $100k cash with every purchase as well, so there’s that incentive.

It works for fixed antennas only(not sure if any 1st gens have the retractable antenna option, my Mom’s 04 Sequoia has it)

My OEM antenna would constantly come unscrewed while driving and reception was hit or miss. I replaced it with an Amazon special 6 ¾” stubby one and my reception significantly increased for FM. But considering what i had before, I think a tin foil wrapped stick would have helped lol. Plus the looks of not having a 3’ metal whip on my truck is nice.

This comes wit”anti theft” thread locker already on it, but it seemed pretty poor. I easily unscrewed 30 minutes after application and per the instructions, it’s supposed to set almost immediately. But I doubt someone will want it that bad

My truck came with a little wrench for the antenna. My guess it’s Toyota’s solution for an antenna that constantly shakes loose.

That's cool. Bummer that it cuts reception down that much . . . when I'm in the desert I like to listen to local radio stations (usually the am variety) and reception isn't always the greatest even with the stock buggy whip.

I love the stubby antenna on my truck. I have no use for AM or FM radio so any loss of reception is moot for me.

I tried a shorter version of the OEM antenna and got a whistling noise when I hit 70+ mph...
So back on went the OEM antenna.

I had a mid length one. The car wash not only ripped it off, but then it started beating my truck with it relentlessly. I could only sit there in horror hearing the metal end smack my truck at 100rpm or whatever speed those rollers spin.

I got a stubby after that. Works pretty well, not as good as stock but better than I expected by far.

I had a car wash malfunction and the car behind my truck (POS F150 at the time) was rammed into my rear bumper 5x while I watched through the glass in disbelief lol never gone to one again.

I went with a 7 inch one a few months ago and like the look. Local reception seems about the same as OEM. I rarely play the radio as I am usually streaming music.

Do you have a link to the one you got?
That did not hurt the reception.

I had a stubby on my 2012 Wrangler which kept it from "sproinging" every time it hit a freakin' tree branch off roading. Didn't notice a diff with am/fm because I literally never use the radio, I always use my phone for spotify. I can't stand commercials.

For local stations? Pretty much non-existent, as expected.

It started raining last night around 12-1am so I went for a drive to see if my Bluetooth to FM adapter had any problems. No issues, worked just fine.

I switched back to my oem antenna after a stubby antenna. I like the feeler slightly above cab height for clearance checks!

I just installed the AntennaMastsRus - The Original 6 3/4 Inch Antenna fits Toyota Tundra (2000-2020) - USA Stainless Steel Threading - Car Wash Proof - Internal Copper Coil - Premium Reception from Amazon. Installation was easy. I took the truck for a ride and all my FM stations seemed to come in fine. I like the short look of it!

+1 on the Amazon ‘Antenna Masts R Us’ .... just got mine today ..... no noticeable signal loss ... but I’m in Orange County CA so there’s probably plenty of signal where I’m at. When I do a desert trip, I’ll ‘bring’ the OEM whip in case the stubby sucks. 0CAA6F2A-CE09-436F-B8C9-C3A2115F58AA.jpg

Mmmmmm. Nope. So you can take it off before going through the automatic machine style car wash. Couple of posts above already tell you what can happen when you don't remove it in advance.

I never got a stubby because I figured if I ever wanted to go through a car wash I'd still need to remove it. This being that flexible would probably be ok. Plus, it's made in WI!

Or I could cap it with a bolt like @assassin10000... I'm kind of thinking a thicker stubby would actually be more noticeable in your peripheral vision? Has anyone noticed this?
