Had been set to put a deposit in on a new Limited and the dealership just called with pricing out. Their two allocated have deposits down with the buyers both offering up to 10k over MSRP to get them. The dealership just set the bar based on those sales. Until further notice all are marked up 10k there. Way to screw others over to be first in line.

I believe it. I knew 2 dealers that had people willing to pay 5-15k over 2 months ago.

Lots of people make really good $$$, Im not one of em. I live in Richmond VA and seeing people drive $80k-150k cars as daily drivers is an everyday occurrence.

How is someone being willing to pay more “them screwing you or others over”. Thats how the market works. Toyota sells vehicles for what buyers are willing/able to pay, not based of x% over cost

msrp is a suggested retail price. They suggested low in current market conditions

Second thread I've seen today about people butthurt that they essentially got outbid for a truck, first the thread about the TRD Pro and now this. No one is forcing you to do shit, so I don't see how you having to wait an extra month or two for a brand new shiny truck since you refuse to open your wallet more is "screwing others over".

Either pay the premium or sit down and shut up and wait.

Why is it Stupid if someone else spends their money differently than you?

I will never buy over MSRP but I also cant see why anyone willing to do so really affects my breathing in any way either.

I wont even buy a new anything either probably because it is not worth it to me to take the initial hit vs saving a ton buying used.

Let someone else take the hit and let live.

Simple, if you go to buy a product for the listed price and someone offers more, that is stupid especially when you could have bought that same product for cheaper.

This kind of financial wisdom only leads to bankruptcy.

To me the only downside is that i'm not fully convinced dealerships offer any value in the sales cycle when they're not carrying any inventory on the lots. People absolutely hate car shopping and sales people have horrible reputations. Would all of this exist if not forced by government?

I do like the idea of locally franchised service centers with a direct sales model. Wonder how it's working for Tesla that are operating outside these older laws.

C'mon guys. I get that the market is hot, and I don't really blame sellers (private or otherwise) getting the most out of their products, but I can certainly understand the OP's frustrations. It sucks to be told one thing, and then have it changed on you for reasons beyond your control, and he wanted to vent. Surely we can at least understand that?

There's only one "first in line" spot at each dealer. And there's more than one person who wants to be first in line. If you have to have it now, you're going to have to be part of the problem you loathe.

Then again, if everyone could just hold, this wouldn't be a problem.

    Why?
I am just fine living in the right now a lot can happen between now and then.
I just try to not compare what other people do to what I do if I can help it,I have enough trouble all on my own.

Basic economics. Money talks. If there are people who are willing to pay extra $10K just to be the first to get it, then the business will gladly take that money. I remember back when the Kia Stinger came out, dealers were marking up the car by $5-15K. A freaking Kia! Two years later, the same new Stingers we're selling $10K below MSRP.
