Hi folks, I have young kids and step rails are therefore really nice to have. Found a great deal on a basic set however description is saying they are for 2012+. All other bars I’m finding say 2007-present compatibility. I’m thinking it may just be a misprint - is there any reason step bars would only work on 2012 and newer models?

I think it's just a misprint or the year that a company started manufacturing a certain step. I install steps all of the time on Tundras and they fit from '07 to current and are cab specific. Most are a very easy install and bolt up to existing weld nuts in the rocker panel.

Any time Dan . Your truck being an '09, the forward most upper holes where the brackets will bolt up don't typically have a factory bolt in them and get pretty crusty so the may need to be chased with a tap to clean them out. M8 x 1.25 I think.

Just in case anyone was still unclear, I was able to verify today that mounting holes are the same on the new current 2018 trucks. Step rails from the 2018 and my 2009 completely interchangeable

In the automotive world, I would say it’s somewhat remarkable that anything would go unchanged for 11 years (2007-2018)

You’re replying to someone who posted 7 yrs ago. I would guess since Toyota changed their platform in 2022 across all trucks, I doubt it will fit. The new platform is the same now for the Tundra, Tacoma, Land Cruiser, 4Runner, Sequoia, LX600, and GX equivalents.
