Had a friend borrow my truck yesterday to move furniture and the steering column won’t stay up like it’s not attached to anything. I have been trying to find answers everywhere but can’t find anything. Does it attach to the two front bolts or is that just to stop it from going forward? I’ve fixed everything myself on this truck but I’m clueless on the steering mechanics.

Yep your column fell. The 2 U shaped cutouts should be under those nuts. Here is a pic of mine.

Yeah that’s what I figured, I got it up on there but can’t get the damn nuts to loosen up so I can slide it up. Correct? Thanks!

They are pretty tight since they mount the column I would assume. @empty_lord works at a dealership I believe. Maybe he will chine in.

Got it fixed. Loosened the bolts and slide right in. Easier fix than I thought. Thanks

is it possible nuts fail off and the nuts you loosened are actually the nuts the bracket tightens against? in other words the bracket is sandwiched between the nuts?

That’s why I don’t let anyone borrow my truck. With great power comes great responsibility

Yep...thats the one. If I remember correctly, it was stolen. Speaking of stolen, thieves are real a$$holes. My daughters tag was stolen off of her car about 3 weeks ago while she was at work. We got a toll by plate bill in the mail today, and there was a pic of the car going through the toll booth with her stolen tag on it.

Yep. It's the 2nd time in a year. Last summer some ass stole the tag from our travel trailer and put it on a boat trailer.

Slice the tags with a knife once it's stuck to the plate. Nobody gonna sit and peel off 8 small peices.

That’s how I felt after posting this and realizing the problem was f-ing obvious. I should Dukes of Hazzard off a bridge. Can you delete mods?

Was this some sort of weird theft attempt?

I've been on different automotive focused boards for 30 years and this is one of the strangest things I've ever seen and there is white-hot competition for that title.
