Stealership - Prosper, Tx

My blower motor went out a few days ago. The one NAPA sold me was not the correct one. Sooooo, I got online and was about to order one from the dealership in Prosper. Online price was $121 + tax. I called to see if they had it in stock and asked what the price was. They quoted $171. I said if I order it online it is $121 and this is the same one right? He said yes, but if I ordered it online they wouldn't pull it from stock and fill my order until tomorrow. Unbelievable. I can have it now for $50 more or wait until tomorrow so they can process the online order, that I will pick up too.

 

There may be a middle "person" in that online transaction that has to send an approval to the dealership.

 

I've experienced something similar buying detailing products from a large chain auto parts store. Discounts apply to online orders only. I've ordered online, got the discount, and picked up the same day. A couple of times, the clerk went and pulled the products off the shelf.

 

Probably the online store is a sperate entity from the brick and mortar store. Same company but the online store buys at a different margin, or in bulk for less than the mortar store is going to have in stock

 

I’ve caught Best Buy doing this. I’d be standing in the store and pull up something on my phone and show them the price difference, but they’d say I have order online for pickup to get that price. This was a few years ago. I don’t think they do it anymore due to losing business to online stores.

 

I’ve haven’t bought a lot stuff from the stealership 4 or 5 dealer only parts from Acton Toyota in Littleton,MA every time I show them the online price sometimes even from different dealers
They always match it weather they order or pull from stock
