Maybe I should have said.. All years Tundra trivia. It’s a 2000 with all Toyota or TRD parts but not necessarily factory installed.

IIRC, there were only 3 trim packages that year...Base, SR5, and Limited...and the base model only came with a V6, correct?

The first Gen Tundra was directly modeled off of the incoming 1997+ F150. If you put the two side by side, the resemblance is uncanny (Remember Fords oval phase?). Also proposed the name "T-150" which was quickly shot down legally by Ford.

Actually I believe just two trims in 2000, SR-5 and Limited.. mine was V-8 2wd SR-5. My neighbor had the same year SR-5 with the V-6 2wd but more stripped interior and exterior.

Access cab only came in those two trims (SR5 and Limited). Regular cab long bed had a base trim, but no Limited trim.

Yes.. right and wrong. The first gen Tundra was designed to be a modernized and modeled after the
    T-100.

The First Gen Tundra was a re-write after the T100 failed to infiltrate the market the way the Toyota pickup, and Tacoma that followed it did. They figured out they did not understand the full size market. So they just copied the best selling truck in the space. The F150. Interior design, tail light shapes, even the side view mirrors all are remarkably similar. Even almost nailed the F150s 4.6L V8 engine offering.

I had a buddy who owned your same Tundra. He was a carpet layer, and he used to load his truck to the hilt almost every day. He literally abused that truck and it just kept running strong. We parted ways, but it was his experience with a Tundra that convinced me to buy one in 2008.

You've got me reminiscing a little bit about my 2000. Sr5 4wd exact same color, but I traded it for below 2002 due to the frame cracking. For some reason it had an aftermarket hitch that only mounted right on the end of the frame and it couldn't handle the tweaking from the equalizer hitch I guess. The 02 had the better factory hitch, so I never had an issue.
All cleaned up trying to sell it to get my 07 .

I didn't say you couldn't have the larger flares on the SR5, but they were standard on the Limited. They also came with the TRD OR package.

I special ordered that truck. It didn't match any standard package. Same thing with my 2016 Limited with tow mirrors, no BSM and no parking sensors.

After having a towing problem, I decided to run the VIN and see what came up on the website. To my surprise the website came up saying that mine was a double cab and not a crew Max. After a little bit more research I found out that the only difference between the SR and SR5 drivetrain is that the engine is tuned to provide higher torque which increases the towing capacity.

This is what I got from my service manager

    Screenshot_5-3-2026_1460_.jpg

Also notice that the factory installed:

    1. Spray in bed liner

    2. All weather floor mats

    3. Dual step running boards

    4. BSM outer mirrors

    5. SR5 convenience package

On page 2 it shows 2 different trucks for the D cab and the crew max.

I pulled the full specs for a 2025 Tundra from Toyota and found Standard equipment for the 2025 Tundra included

    1. The “A” post painted “Gloss Black” mine is not

    2. Active Front Spoiler I don’t have

    3. Active grill Shutters I don’t have

    4. Max tow Capacity is 11,400 I don’t have

    5. Underbody Covers I don’t have

According to the specification these would be included in the MSRP

One of the files show it is standard for the active grill shutters and an active front spoiler and the other shows only the active grill shutters to be standard equipment.

While trying find out about my truck I did a search through AutoZone and found this interesting

    upload_2026-3-7_14-57-22.jpg
    From my service rep

On June 24, 2025, at 2:29 p.m., I received another text message stating that the Field Representative from Toyota said that the towing capacity on that truck is 11,400 pounds

I got an update from the technician after 5pm yesterday, when he finished discussing this with Toyota technical assistance. Technical assistance told him per the vin number of that truck the towing capacity is only 8300 lbs. It is not equipped with the "tow package". Yes it is still equipped to tow, but only up to 8300 lbs. Technical assistance said there is nothing wrong with the truck, based on the data readings from the truck, but to go any further with having TAS give us any more information, we would need to know for sure the exact weight of the trailer and the cargo being pulled when the event is occurring.

With all the discrepancies and information, I was able to collect I felt there was a lot of misrepresenting the trucks capabilities online and with the dealership so I went to the State Attorneys’office to see if they could do anything. They told me they could not do anything without the sheriff doing an investigation. I went to the Sheriff office and met up with the investigator. This is a copy of the email he sent with his results.

    to me

    Good morning,

I appreciate you bringing the truck to me this morning.

I was able to make some calls and confirm that the infotainment system matches up with the VIN#5TFLA5AB5SX046876.

The 5 digit # that I saw under the hood was not a VIN derivative, but rather a radiator support part number.
    upload_2026-3-7_14-57-22.jpg

I checked and found the correct Part # and it was not that

    upload_2026-3-7_14-57-22.jpg

The federal sticker on the inside of the door frame is original.

I was able to confirm the shipping label on your truck, which is essentially a birth certificate for a vehicle.

I spoke with a NICB special agent who explained your vehicle was made in the beginning or 2025, which may explain the differences in what the 2025 vehicles have and the 2024’s. When they switch over in manufacturing, they still use parts on hand to build out vehicles, even though the newer ones have different specs. So you purchased a truck that was made during a change over in manufacturing.

I can’t believe Toyota was still in the middle of the change over from 2024 to 2025 in Feb. of 2025. You sell 2025 models in July - Aug. so I would think the change over would have to be done then.

After all that I had done and the attorneys that kept saying it is a lemon law issue, I contacted Clark Howard consumer action Center. After explaining my situation, they gave me the information on how to email the top people at Toyota. I was pleasantly surprised when I got a call from one of the V.P. assistants.

During the phone conversation I was able to further explain what was going on and the problems I was having with the dealership. She told me the dealership is a business partner and not part of Toyota and she would do an investigation of her own and call me back on the 31st. I told her I had all this information and I could send to her and she said I could if I wanted to and she sent me a link to mail it to. During our conversation she said she had all the information about my truck based on the VIN I included in my original email. In our conversation she told me that her information based on the VIN I sent her that the towing capacity was 8,300 lbs. and she was concerned about what my trailer weighed and what the front configuration is because all that could affect the transmission.

After I was able to get all my information to her, she said that there was nothing else that she could do and she cant even discuss the information that I sent to her.

Maybe you can see my dilemma.

I would checkout what Toyota.com says is standard equipment and if you got it!

I am still learning about blogs, I hope it all goes through!

Could take a larger resolution pic so it's readable.
And how about a decent pic of your truck?
    Maybe post your VIN #..

So is the truck a crewmax or a double cab?

I still don't understand what your problem is.
It still seems you bought an SR, thinking it was an SR5.
A picture of your truck would solve this dilemma.
The placement of the emblems or lack there of show anyone if the truck is an SR or SR5.
If there is a TUNDRA emblem on the front door and an SR5 emblem on the rear door, I'd say you'd have a case.
If not, you bought an SR.

The OP does appear to have a valid point. I just plugged his VIN into the Toyota VIN lookup.

Notice how it says he has a D CAB under Body Type, but says it's a SR5 Crewmax 5.5 under Additional Details.

Regardless of the body type confusion, his truck should have the higher towing capacity of the SR5. Not sure why he's being told it doesn't.

I had a 2010 Nissan Titan PRO4X that came up as a "regular" Titan by VIN number. There were lots of specific parts that made it a PRO4X so no question about it's trim level. Techs had to force correct parts through for repairs.

No bionic vision necessary. He posted his VIN number in plain sight in the response from the sheriff.
