I also question whether it would be worth the liability for a shady dealer to intentionally misrepresent a trim package. Seems like a good way to lose a business for a few extra dollars.

I could be wrong, I usually am, but it seems to be more like an uneducated buyer.
Perhaps he saw the price of the SR and locked on to it, thinking he was getting a great deal without paying attention to the details.
I don't know about the Gen 3 SRs, but the SRs of the past had vinyl floors and obviously looked like a 'work' truck.

If you compare the models, there are NO available packages for the SR.
There are zero option packages available to add to it; they are all the same.
    2026 Toyota Tundra Specifications | Toyota.com

I don't see any dealerships wasting their time and money adding anything to an SR to make it look like an SR5.
Either a buyer wants a bare bones Tundra, or they don't.

The base price for an SR5 over an SR is $5K.
If that's a deal breaker, then one can't afford it.

    upload_2026-3-4_10-31-24.png

My perception of you is that you would do your research before you purchase something.
It could be that the buyer is young and has little experience in vehicle purchasing.
We all know that you should never trust a car salesman unless you have had a previous positive relationship or at least have a reference.
But I don't feel this should be blamed on the dealership.

All speculation on my part, but being retired, what else do I have to do..

I'm interested in this dual VIN thing. So you are saying that there is a regular VIN and a hidden one?

You might give me too much credit. Based on great past experiences with my Tundras, I didn't even shop anything else. My only criteria for my Gen 3 was it had to be a white 1794 non-hybrid. None of the TRD stuff, or lift, mattered to me.. it's pretty hard to mistake a 1794 with its unique interior, so I was confident I was getting what I paid for.

Now, on other stuff, I'm a compulsive researcher, almost to the point of paralysis from over-analysis.

Remember, it's an SR and an SR5. Don't forget it may have been built during the cutover between 24 and 25, so that makes it qualify it for multiple VINs as well.

All sarcasm aside, this brings up a good observation. Is this a salvage title/rebuild?
If he truly does have 2 VINs it's not out of the question.

I guess if it's a Franken-truck it could have multiple VINs. Who knows for sure... All the information so far is about as useful as a nun's tits.

I live in a perpetual state of confusion............

But at least I know I bought a Limited.
I didn't even know it had an active spoiler and radiator shutters until @GODZILLA pointed it out to me, which seems to be the OP's biggest complaint...:bananadance::bananadance::bananadance:

For a guy recovering from a knee replacement, this thread has been outstanding entertainment. I also have no clue what the OP is trying to solve or where its going

How is the knee replacement going?
I'll be there with you within a year or 2.
I'm putting off as long as possible.

OP is just venting. I’m pretty sure his truck isn’t an SR5. He has numerous documents that say some things. None of which he has shared here. He did post a scanned picture of what looked like an online model comparison sheet for us to all understand where he’s coming from, or something

Just to add to the confusion, i have a 25 SR5 with no badging on the sides at all, but thats the way it comes with the SX package. You get the dark gray painted rims as well.

But it does have black B-pillars, and I'm sure your window sticker says SR5. If OP can't post his window sticker it feels like trolling...

OP tell us how many mailboxes you crashed into while using cruise control and we can tell you if you’ve got a real SR5 or not.

Notice how OP is saying he paid for these two items twice. The two that happen to have an asterisk next to them stating they’re also listed in the distributor’s options. I’m sure that’s part of the confusion.

And to add to that, I debadged my 2014 as well as removed the TSS decal from the bed.
Pulled the TUNDRA and SR5 badges, except for the 5.7 badge, didn't want anyone to think I had the 4.6..:eek2::cool:

How else is he claiming to have 2 VINs???

This whole thread reminds me of how dealers mistakenly (or on purpose) list TRD Off-Road as TRD PRO’s. There have been several people on this forum who came in saying they just bought a TRD PRO just to find out they got a truck with a TRD Off-road package, likely over paying.

Definitely buyer beware, do your own research and don’t take the salesman’s word. They generally don’t know anything.

Nope. Must be the SR5 as it doesn't have the larger fender flares. Boom.
