I just put on the Baxter TS-301-BK spin-on filter adapter on my 2021 SR5. The filter I used was Mobil 1 M1-209A which is one of the ones recommended. It seems to hang very low and my truck didn't come with a skid plate.

Is anyone using this setup and what filter are you using and are there any problems fitting a skid plate with the filter. I don't mind getting a skid plate if it will fit.

Thanks, I saw that but didn't see anything around the hoses. I will clean it this weekend and see if it comes back. Didn't have a smell either, thinking it might be some cleaning agent they used to detail it when I bought it.

    No factory skid, seems strange.

Why tamper with the filter design?

Hmm. That definitely looks like coolant. It’s possible they topped off your overflow and spilled a bunch in the process. But that’s a whole lot of splashes at the bottom of the motor to be from spillage up top.

Hangs way too low for me as well. My truck also doesn't have a skid plate. I bought it used so not sure if it was removed by the prior owner or the dealership since they were the only ones that worked on it before I bought it.

I'm getting old and it just seems easier, plus it mentioned the anti-drain valve would help. No clue if that's true or not.

I did see a post that mentioned Wix 51335 which is shorter so I might look at that one.

Non Pro Tundras that don't have the TRD Off Road package don't get skids. 2wd or 4wd doesn't matter so long as it has the OR package.

For what it's worth, the stock skids are crap anyway. Very thin and flimsy.

Hmm. That's new info. Everything I've found for the 2014+ indicated only the OR package included them. Perhaps the dealership added it? Or did you buy used and possibly the PO added one?

    Very curious. :monocle:

I wonder if I messed up in the look ups I did and only looked at the stuff after 2018, or if maybe the Toyota site didn't have the proper stuff in the package lists. Might just be that the skids are on any of the TRDs.

My trail came with skid too. Not really much more than an air dam though. Such a joke, why bother.

My 2018 4x4 non pro or OR package had a skid plate. I was just surprised when I looked and it didn't have one. Also my son's 2013 2wd had one.

Good call on the coolant leak, went out at lunch to clean everything and noticed that the top radiator hose had leaked at the engine side. Should I replace the clam? Didn't see it leaking while I had it running but wasn't up to temp yet.

Well shit. I guess Oprah decided that everybody was getting a skid plate.

Maybe plate use is regional. I obviously don't know. :notsure::rofl:

Definately replace that clamp and fill the coolant. Then keep an eye out for leaks in the future, such as puddles where you park at places.

I might be wrong, but you may be thinking of the TRD skid plate which is unique to certain trucks. Can’t understand why, but my 17 Platinum has the other style skid, the big ugly black POS that doesn’t even have oil filter access. I think that one is found on many trucks without a TRD package.

Nope, I'm talking about the little black one. The TRD skid is standard on the Pro, but I think it's an added option for any other. But I have already demonstrated I don't know sh*t about what trucks get skids, so.....

My radiator had a super small crack and leaked pink fluid all over just like that. They had to pressure test it to find the crack. Replaced under warranty
