Who has used "sound deadening" products? What did you use? Where was the best area to install? And what would you do different.

This is probably for mostly 1st and 2nd generations...but I am gathering info on "mods" I plan on doing in the future. And this "sound deadening" is something I want to pursue. My thought was a little "quieter" in the cab would be cool so let's ask the group. I have a 2003 Tundra SR5 step side. Sure she's a little older but I really like the body style. And since this is mostly used as a "third" vehicle...just a run around truck, I thought I would have some fun doing some mods as time goes on. A little hobby. Also, I plan on redoing the carpeting and seats so pulling everything out this coming spring, summer, will allow me to have access to just about the whole cab.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for any input!

I have used Dynamat in two previous vehicles. I thought it worked gret. A few of my friends had used less expensive stuff and we're very happy with their purchase as well.

I am pretty sure they used fatmat, but not 100%.

I used Dynamat years ago in a '90 Jeep Comanche that I bought new and just recently sold after buying my Tundra. 25 years and 266K miles, parked indoors and out all over the country. The Dynamat lasted and remained attached for the duration.
I do, however, plan to give the Fatmat a try soon, first on my wife's VW Beetle. Talk about noisy!!

i just used rammat for interior door panes, floor, back wall and roof. ensolite on exterior of doors. it is more cost competitive when bought in the package then others and the performance is great. used in tundra and my z06. when i do another build i will use it again.

I used Fatmat, haven't used any other type of sound deadening material. It improves sound quality and helped control the vibrations especially in the back wall of the cab that thing used to vibrate like crazy got really annoying.

Thanks Eric. Lol...on the VW. 4 of us use to run around town in the mid 70's with a beetle. Dam those were GOOD TIMES! Of course at that time who cared about a "noisy" cabin....lol. With all the "party materials" etc...lol....and the hole in the wall for the trunk in front stored all our empties from the cops! Lol

I had Dynamat installed throughout one of my weekend rides with very positive results. Haven't received my Tundra yet, but if there's to much road noise, will definitely go this route again.

I used Raam Mat as well. Good stuff. I'm pretty sure I got a forum discount with Tacoma World. It was that or another forum

I just installed 50 mil Noico from Amazon and I have no complaints about it. Now when I close my doors they sound a lot quieter and beefier.:muscleflexing:

I seen a thread on this, and the following was done:

Door panels, roof, floorboard, and I can't remember if he did anything with the firewall or hood.

Guess his Tundra was rather quiet after all his work.

I've sound deadened four different trucks of mine over the years. Here are my suggestions and experience. If your doing subs you definitely want to sound deaden the area behind the rear seats and under the rear seat to reduce vibrations. I always like to sound deaden the doors. This helps keep the sound inside the truck and its lot quieter on the inside from road noise. If you do the roof of the truck it's a lot quieter when it rains and again helps with acoustics. It's important when you apply the material you use a roller to get the it bonded to the metal surface. I've gone as far as doing every inch on the interior of a truck in the past. It was so tight that when I would turn on the A/C it put pressure on your ears and air would whistle out of cracks around my door handles. So make sure you done cover any vents made to allow air to get out of the cab. I've used dynamat extreme and Ballsitic. I preferred the dynamat extreme but it's a lot more money. I would suggest looking for a bulk pack for the best price per sq ft. Typically I take my vehicles and gut the intire inside then sound deaden everything. Next I'll run my power wire, audio wires, Rc wires and then reinstall the interior carpet. Then I'll install my amp and finish installing rhe seats. I'll see if I can find pics for you.

This is the dynamat bulk pack. For the rolller I would just get something cheap that helps roll it on. It doesn't need to be anything fancy IMG_5385.jpg

not sure if the lowes or homedepot wallpaper seam roller works. When I got there they didn't have it in stock, but for 2 bucks worth a try Roman-Wallpaper-Seam-Roller

WOW...1UPPER...FITS! sounds like you 1upped it....everywhere! But if you are like me..if you're going to do it...do it all and do it right! That's what I was thinking this spring when I do this is..Im replacing the carpet and seats so basically the cab is empty to start. Yes I've decided to put subs in..so that back wall IS important. Doors yes because new speakers. Since I was looking at the roof liner the other day...well...that will be done also. I really am amazed at my doors, for a 2003 the close sound and tight. Maybe there is something in there already. I will find out. In 2013 I bought the wife a little "midlife" crisis car... an FRS. That little thing is a blast to drive...lol.."if" you can get in it. But back then I just took it to an audio shop..told them.to make it quieter...and cut the check. Now...I want to do this to this Tundra I just picked up about 2 months ago. Thanks for ALL your input...it's been very helpful!

Just ordered Noico 80 72 sq ft and Dynamat hoodliner. Installing in December. Will do a decibal reading before and after. Have to wait for vacation to do cab interior.Screenshot_2017-11-12-07-31-02.jpg Screenshot_2017-11-12-07-31-08.jpg

@BakNBlk2014 you may need one or two more packs of the sound deadening mat, depending on how much coverage you are wanting to do. I just did the inside and outside doors skins last weekend and went thru 14 sheets (56sf). I used 8 sheets (32sf) to do the back wall and the floor under the rear seats.
I had 5 sheets left over from doing my 2002 tundra years and bought 2 boxes. I had to order a 3rd box to finish the floor.

What are the key areas to hit?

Since my install got delayed by a week, I'm thinking of picking up some deadening, but no way I'm going to do the entire cab. Would a panel behind the speakers actually make a difference?

Hey Chris. Thanks for the heads up. Was planning on doing the doors inside and out and a layer on the hood panels of the noico with the 72 sq ft. Then put the Dynamat hoodliner on top of the noico on the hood. I figure another 72 sq ft if not more for the cab and cab roof. Any advice is appreciated and welcome. Had a 5 series bmur before this and miss that sealed in a noiseless vacuum feeling.

I used a product call Kilmat. got 50 sq ft ( 47 pieces) for about 65$ shipped off eBay. Not quite as thick as dynamat but was able to do all four doors in a 2017 DC and along the entire back wall and about a foot under the back seats. Still have 8 pieces left. Makes a HUGE difference in the cab.

Just ordered this to go with the noico 80 mil. I'll use it on the seams and hard to reach spaces. Also to cover door holes before putting the noico sheet over it. Its buytl and had a peel off layer on the adheasive just like the noico. This should end up being an interesting project. Screenshot_2017-11-13-19-54-10.jpg Screenshot_2017-11-13-19-55-07.jpg
