Welcome! I didn’t think you needed a lift for 20’s?

I don't think you need a lift for 20" wheels either. Do you mean, you want larger than stock tires for off-roading? Yes, that often requires some lift.

Any reason you want to run 20" wheels for off-roading? I'm asking because most of us run 18" or even 17" wheels for off-roading = more room dedicated to tire size so we can air down and still have a good pad of rubber....

For off reading you wants big tires, and small wheels. People seem to like the look of big wheels these days but are a move in the opposite direction of what you want if you intend to actually off-road.

Well then, you shouldn't need a lift. And I can think of one guy on here that was very capable off-road on 20" wheels with very little rubber. @Jackjack

However, I think he was probably also kinda lucky, because one sharp rock coulda torn one of those tires, and maybe damaged the wheel. Maybe he'll chime in for you; I think he enjoyed going off-road and changed out to smaller wheels and more rubber. :notsure:

There’s not much on this site about 20” wheels period. I’m running stock 20” with 33” Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. I don’t off-road, per-se, but do a lot of dirt fire roads, BLM roads, heavy snow etc.

33 inch tires on 20" wheels should be fine as long as you keep OEM offset or no less than 20. Any offset smaller than that (wheels sticking out further) or larger tires than 33 you will have to start lifting. I have 20" wheels with 35" tires and I had to do a 3" lift and remove the front mud flaps to prevent rubbing.

Wheel size is irrelevant for most normal cases, it’s tire size and wheel offset that gets you.
What’s your stile, street off road in between?
Keep in mind a lot of tundras come with factory with 20s.

Nice looking setup. Did you have to do any lift or spacers to prevent rubbing? I have 20” wheels with stock tires but want to go to tires with more aggressive treads. Not for off-roading but something better for snow and unpaved roads.
I was also considering something like Cooper AT3’s

nope, bone stock, no rubbing. I did throw new shocks on a few weeks before that gave me a 1/4” lift, those may have helped, dunno....just trd sports, but I started rubbing the top of my garage so I know it lifted for sure.

20” wheels with a 295/55 Toyo which is about a 33x12.25” since the Toyos run a bit big.

I live in south Louisiana. No such thing as off roading with danger of rocks lol. Nothing but mud and sand here. So, I went with the 20” route cause I preferred the look and had a lot more tire options.

I like those wheels. And the clean de-badged and colormatched look.

The only reason I would stick with a 20” wheel is because the larger tire for that size wheel are narrower, like the size I want which is 275/65/20, stock size width which is 10.8 and 34.1 tall. I like skinny tires as they perform better in most situations than wide tires. There’s nothing wrong with running 20” wheels for off-road use it’s just that it has less sidewall, also depends on which size tire you choose. I’m keeping my stock 20’s for winter use and getting 17’s for off-road use.

Not that a 275 is a skinny tire, but compared to most "off road" tires they are. and I agree with you, pizza cutters are great for everything. I had 255s on my taco and loved them

My truck is a SR5 2wd. No lift of any kind. I'm running 20x9 with a +50 offset with 285/55r20 BFG ko2's. Zero rubbing.

It’s the skinniest tall tire available, on a 20” wheel to be exact, stock width is 10.8. No other tire size 18 or 17” is that tall with the same width, it’s sad that 20” wheels have better narrow sizes than 18 and 17” wheels.

You will probably rub with that set up. I have 285/55 20 x 9 +20 with stock suspension and it barely clears.

On a 3/1 you’ll have plenty of room. I’m clearing with a 2” in front. Stock, no.
