I've been tossing the idea around for a couple of months now - I love this truck but do I really need it? I no longer have a boat to tow, and for trails and offroading the 4runner is a much better choice.

I also commute about 70 total miles daily. Fortunately my wife works at the hospital near where I work so we have been able to commute together and alternate vehicles, but even with that I'm just throwing money away on fuel that could go toward epic vacations, international travel, my kids' college funds, home improvement, etc..

After much deliberation I decided to let her go. It really all hinged on what the dealer would offer me on trade. They started by offering $36k but after some back and forth, and with all the modifications to the truck, we settled on $38.5. This is almost as much as I bought the truck for new.

I picked up a 2015 Avalaon XLE Touring with only 11k miles on it. Car is mint, was literally owned by a little old lady who lived in the same town as the dealership. I don't think the car has been 50 miles away from the dealer.. They also threw in window tint, and free oil changes for 2 years at my request. I don't think they wanted to turn down a man near tears (not really, at least not noticeably). This wipes away all vehicle debt for me and puts a lot more $$ in my pocket each month.

What really pushed me over the edge to look at selling was one of my daughters having some medical issues that have, and continue to be quite expensive, the other daughter quickly nearing college age, and the desire to get back to having a nice cushiony financial buffer between life and destitution. If I had a serious need for the truck I would have kept it. I kept finding myself looking for excuses to keep it even after deciding to sell.

I will be back in a Tundra eventually. I will probably wait a few years until a new generation comes out, but I can't see myself owning another truck in this class.

You guys and ladies are amazing. This is the most active and helpful, friendly and respectful group of car owners I've been a part of. I'd love to continue to lurk, keep up to speed on the latest and greatest Tundra news, and come back into the Tundra game with a whole list of stuff I don't need to spend money on.

The dealer gave me one more night because I had to leave the dealership to pick up my son for piano practice, and they were going to put tint on and detail the new car anyway. Took a couple parting shots after removing everything that I'm keeping. Transplanted my AJT Designs shift knob into the 4runner.

I'm looking for new wheels for the Avalon, in bronze, to pay homage to the best car I've ever owned. =(

I know that must’ve been a hard decision. Props to you for being able to make that hard decision bc it is what’s better for the family. It’s a beautiful truck and I’m sure it’ll sell quickly.

Sounds like a responsible decision. I am with you. If I ever need extra fund for higher priority stuff, I would do you what you did. You could always get one later on when the time is right.

Yeah. I could keep it but I'd be a bit out of my comfort zone financially. =\

I somehow doubt people are going to stop me on the street and at gas stations to compliment my Avalon, but I'll get by.

Dang sad news but you can always get another later. Gotta take care of your priorities! Oh and we just got rid of a 2016 Avalon touring w 11k miles. How funny is that? That car was ok.

80 mile commute is what I do every day. I would not want to do that in a truck.

Understandable. Enjoy the Avalon. I had a 2014 and it was really nice. Gets a lot of second looks when it was all cleaned up too.

I think you did the right thing, trading that truck must have been a difficult but knowing that you'd have some to save is a good thing. That Avalon will feel like you're driving on the cloud. Enjoy, good luck and ya definitely stick around.

I really do understand where you are coming from! Been thinking hard about the same thing. I don't drive it much and have turned modding into a hobby, but for the little that I use it as a truck, I could have something more reasonable. As I get older priorities change...but I sure love my toys! Good luck!

    ^^this!

@Backslider life does have its moments when certain aspects become more important than a nice truck. At least you stayed in the family, so we expect to see a lift and some 35s on that Avalon! I’m pretty sure a 3/1 will get you enough clearance with a CMC
