I’m looking into getting an all weather softopper for my tundra. Has anyone had one before or know of any similar ones that are good? Or of course if there were any for sale

Here’s what I was looking at:

I had a SofTopper on my 2001 Ranger. I liked it. Built sturdy. Based out of Boulder, CO!

Soft topper and canbak i believe are the only brands out there for our tundras.

I used my soft topper with my bed filled with camping stuff from los angeles to bryce and back driving up to 90mph and it worked perfectly.

I really want one for camping and for my dogs. I like that it can be folded down so I don’t need it up 24/7. Did water ever get into the bed with it on in the rain?

Would you go with soft topper over a canbak?

I spent a good month debating between a SofTopper and a hard canopy. I eventually decided on a hard canopy mainly for security/the ability to lock it, but I was really close to ordering a SofTopper. The lack of security is really the only con for the SofTopper, and everyone always seems to have good things to say about them.

    I found one used locally.

As for water intrusion.. i don't keep it mounted. I leave the rails on, but take the canopy off when i don't need it. It comes with a foam tape for the rails and seam sealer. Depending on how you have it positioned and how you have the front and rear flaps secured water shouldn't be an issue.

Idk if bestop makes one for a tundra or not. I had one on my Tacoma and it was ok. Got the job done. I liked the windows but all the zippers were a pain

I’m not too concerned about locking it as it would be more for my dogs and long drives

@blizz86 ohkay sweet. I figured if I had one I’d only have it on when needed or at least rolled down in the bed when I’m not using it

I came across bestop when looking for my tundra but I think it’s a Tacoma and Jeep thing

Not much. Usually at the tailgate during heavy rain.

I’m sure if I got one I could find a way to block it out. Where I’m at there’s pretty bad thunderstorms but it’s a truck so it can get a little rain in the bed lol

I’ve had 5 of these tops.

I never experienced any leaks unless a corner/side was rolled up.

If you ever have zipper issues, run a bar of soap down the teeth. Runs butter smooth.

Once at the beach in outer banks I took a red crayon I found in the rental house to the zipper to get the window back in lol. Worked like a charm.

Thanks for the reply! I’m glad to see so many positive comments and such about these toppers. Did you buy anything extra with yours like the boot cover or mesh windows? Was wondering if those are worth the price

I had the window, mesh, and boot.

Be warned, if you have the mesh window on and drive down a dirt road with all your camping gear and dog in the back, you will quickly regret that.

I still have a mesh window in my garage for my next soft topper.

Oh yeah man. That taco was a fun beach truck. Had it lifted with pizza cutters 255s×34 aired down were unreal, air bags in back for carrying loads (beer and ice, lots of it, lots) racks, bestop all opened up, roll out awning on one side, then I had some connection points rigged up to mount a 10x20ft tarp tied off on the other side and some poles in the sand. Was a lot of fun and I pulled out so many other trucks from the sand.

Is it either the mesh window or the standard window then? And is the boot a case for when it’s completely off the truck or can it be used when it’s rolled up in the bed as well

I really liked all our Tacoma’s (99, 00, 14). In CO, they fit the trails well and could go most places the Jeeps could. Only one place the Tacoma’s couldn’t go as often....

    The dealership. LMAO

I had both rear windows, and had them both with me all the time while in use.

The boot is great for when storing, or when the top is folded down to the front of the bed. I would never attempt driving without the boot on folded down.

I loved mine too. I had a 99 ext cab, 6inch lift on 35s. That 3.4 was a great motor and the whole truck was perfect til the frame sprung some holes.
Then got my 08 sport dcsb which I really liked. Lifted on those pizza cutters which imo look so good on tacomas, had some cool stuff on that truck. Great truck til....the frame rusted.
Decided it was time for a full size so tundra it was. Can't go back to smaller now. But they were great trucks.

Can you drive it rolled up like that or is it more for just chilling in the bed with some shade?
