I have a snug top shell with a pop up lock. It doesn't lock though when I push the lock in. The key turns it just fine but the lock itself doesn't stick closed, it just keeps popping out. I don't want to just buy a new one until I understand what the actual problem is (plus it's $60 that I don't want to spend if I don't have to)

The snugtop I had on my taco was a pop-out handle. It was the worst.

If I recall correctly, if you turned the key like a 1/4 or half turn, it would pop out to open. If you removed the key without returning it to the neutral (straight up position), there were little brass ears that would retract keeping it from locking in the “in” position.

This was normal operation for these.

Thanks for that. Do you have a picture by chance of the brass ears?

I don’t. It was on a truck that I no longer own.

When the handle was extended (not nested), the brass pieces were on either side of the neck of the t-handle.
