Looking in to getting a new smart thermostat this week and was wondering what members on here have and a little feedback if possible. I have a Ecobee 3 now and don't really care for it .

    Thanks in advance!!

I have run a nest for over 5 years with no complaints... What type of system do you have. It helps to know if it is multi stage or a dual fuel system, like a gas forced air furnace with a heat pump...

Been using an Emerson Sensi for 4 years now. It’s not as “smart” as others, but it also isn’t as finicky. It gives me plenty programming options and remote management. That’s all I need it to do haha

I recommend you the Nest 3rd gen but make sure to install it properly that includes adding the C wire if not present to avoid any damage to your main board.

Most system Or installers leave the C wire tucked into the wire harness and not being used and is just a matter of attaching both sides of the wire and your are done.

check with your electric company, some give rebates and discounts on them. ours gives a free Ecobee 4 and 3 $50 credits on separate bills to switch to smart thermostats through them.

Nest all the way. I’ve had 2 of them, a second gen in my old house and a third gen in my new one. Both performed flawlessly. They’re customer support for wiring is great if you need it.

Just installed one of these a couple months ago. So far it's been nice, but don't have any long term usage on it yet.

Sometimes on my Ecobee for example I will have it set to 72 in the winter and it will feel cold so I will go look at the thermostat and it will say it’s 72 so at that point I will turn it to 73 (one degree higher) and it will kick on then I check the actual reading a minute later and it says it’s 69 degrees and it will run to the 73 degrees I set it at and it’s warm. It does it all the time so something is wrong with it.

I'm a service tech and have seen most thermostats out. Everything out there has pros and cons, if it was my choice honestly I'd stick with a Honeywell wifi T6. It's got all the functionality of the others for the most part and will out last 7/10 competitors hands down if not more.

Also as noted before its programmable for different furnace types. Single and variable stages. heat pump or reg. condenser.

Ecobee or Honeywell. Half of the Nests which I installed had to be pulled. Most manufacturers have their own rebranded ones as well.

Also a service tech and I recommend people stop f-ing around with their Tstats. Set it and leave it alone. proven long ago that if you are not gone for over 24 hours that its is not worth changing the temps up and down all day. I have TWO digital NON-PROGRAMMABLE t'stats in my house. Probably twice a month one of my guys is wiring in a standard tstat and placing in the return on a commercial RTU because the wifi tstat has shit the bed.

I love the Nest! It was almost free with the rebate my local power company offered. My favorite feature is that I can monitor temps in every room. And I can set the thermostat for any room I choose, not just at the thermostat itself. Through the app I have full control at home and anywhere I go. F76E3620-300E-4AD8-9816-EED070EE6C7A.jpg

HVAC tech/teacher here also. I recommend Honeywell all the way. Too many times the electric company or the "Nest" thermostat will try to "learn" and after a long hot day of work you come home to a system that can't catch up. You can change it a few degrees using an app, but I agree with the above tech. Set it and forget it. Your HVAC system conditions your entire house - walls, floors, furniture, air, etc.

You can turn off the “learn” function of the Nest. You can set it and forget it if you’re into “dumb” thermostats. So really, it’s the most versatile option out there.

100 likes. 30 years of different gizmos and gadgets on HVAC. Ask me what I got, single stage heat pump (no gas avail) with a scroll compressor. Mine breaks I can fix today. Your 18 seer woop de doo unit breaks I am ordering parts or retrofitting an old style part to get you running. Just like our trucks, KISS.

Says the guy that dosn't have to deal with Harry Homeowner and his vast understanding of 24v tstat wiring. Heat pumps can have up to 7 wires and 50's-80's homes with basic tstats did not need to run a common wire. Oh the fun of explaining to the home owner he will need to pull tstat wire with more conductors after Lowes or Amazon told him easy install.
