Damn you can get 2 of the one pound green camping tanks for like 10 bucks at Walmart. Why is this thing so special? Same price as a new 20lb tank?

20lb is a pain to carry around, and managing partial green tanks gets old after awhile. I'll use these for many years to come.

Well to be fair to these tank makers they probably make 5000 twenty pound tanks to every one of these five pounders so pricing makes sense I guess

I will just refill my little green tanks

just one tank to carry around with enough propane to last a week. Also used with propane fire pits for those fire ban areas.

Ok, I can't resist it, have had the 5 lb and it needs to be tied to something to run a lantern, however the 20 lbs will fit quite nicely in a milk crate that is marked "possession is considered theft'", it can be strapped in the back of trucks and doesn't move. Already has the cushion on the sides and doesn't slide. Can be disconnected in the morning and used to power a camp stove for drip coffee and eggs in skillet. plenty left.

One thing I've found that is nice about these specific ones versus other brands, is they have a built-in gauge.

Gauges on these little propane tanks are all but useless. Just gonna read full until it’s empty. Better to use the temp strips and some hot water or just weigh the tank.

What's with the vitriol towards these tanks? My gauge works fine...

No vitriol intended. It’s just the way propane works. Liquid converts to gas and tank maintains same pressure until there’s no liquid left to convert. It’s like having a fuel gauge on your car that says ‘there’s gasoline in there’ but it doesn’t tell you how much

I use a separate gage adapter that goes onto the valve, its essentially an extension with a gage on it thats pretty accurate. With the relatively low weight, its harder to tell when its low compared to a 20 lb tank. Like 10 bucks on Amazon.

Did you condition the tank by freezing it or anything first? Were you able to fully fill it?

I followed the instructions on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jC5sVhxMmno

I didn't freeze the tank. I used the bleeder valve and closed it once visible gas started coming out. Pretty sure I got them all the way full, tanks weighed at 14.3lb once full and they're somewhere in between 9 and 10 when empty.

I like the use of the 1lb filler adapter on the 5lb tank and the 1lb hose converter on the 20lb. I actually have both so dont have to buy more hoses or couplers...

All that’s happening is equalizing the pressure, used to work for a LP company for 8 years and I’d use this method late at night so I didn’t have to bring tank truck out…works better with full small tank into a larger tanks but will at least equalize pressures

this right here. i'm over juggling around partially empty bottles and writing "use this one first" on the most empty one, then throwing them away. i'd rather just keep a dedicated 5lb-er for camping trips. fifty bucks tho, sheesh
