I am looking for opinions on skid plates from anyone who has them.

    Toyota TRD
    Victory 4x4
    RCI (seems popular in searches)
    Other options?

I am looking to replace the stock skid plate on a 2019. My truck does have the Bilstein 6112’s with shims and has a three inch lift so I would need some dif drop accessory kit also I’m “assuming”.
I would also like to ensure it has the access door to oil filter as well because we all know how much of a time saver that option is also.

    Thank you for any information.

RCI hands down. Choice of aluminum or steel. Aluminum..powder coated or bare. Spacers to account for diff drop can be added at no additional cost.

I would go RCI or Victory. Victory is a little bit thicker (and I think more $$$) than RCI, but I have RCI and they are stout. As Black Wolf said, you can get the diff drop from them too, and I don't know what options Victory has for that. I personally prefer the look of Victory's skid because I like symmetry and their logo tickles my OCD.

RCI installed with the spacers, if you order you have the option if you want the diff spacer or not.

I had RCI skids on my old Tundra and currently have them on my 4runner. The 4runner has taken several hits and the plates have always held up. Im sure the other brands are fine, but im going to stick with the option that I know from experience works.

That’s why I knew to ask everyone here. Actual user/owner forum feedback. The RCI seems to get the most notoriety and seems most popular. So if all the cool kids are doing it, I will contact them and go that route.

    Thank you everyone!

So what are your opinions on the gas tank skid plates? I was up in the mountains earlier this week and a couple of rock shelves I had to drop off of made me think about it. I'm interested, but that's another 50lbs I'd be adding.

I wound think if you are out in Utah and actually hearing crunching noises that fifty pounds over the course of your trucks life in those conditions is worth the peace of mind for that one time you do damage that has to be repaired.

RCI... I had the TRD skid plate and takes way to much effort to adapt it to a differential drop. Got the RCI and love how easy if was to install and feels way more sturdier that factory TRD.

They don't, at least not one I know of. They do go on sale sometimes. I snagged engine, trans, and tanks skids along with rock sliders last Labor Day because they were doing a 15% off sale. With Covid and all the other craziness, who knows if the sales will happen again.

Keep in mind as well, you'll be paying for freight on these. It's best to see if you can get it shipped to a commercial address for a bit of savings. Unless you are in Colorado and can go pick them up yourself.

RCI runs sales from time to time. When I bought mine it was 15% off. The discount was thru their website. It wasn’t exclusive to the forum

Skid plates get shipped via FedEx. It’s everything else they sell that gets shipped freight. Cost me $43 to have the skid shipped from CO to Maine

ooooh! That's good info. Guess mine was freight because of the sliders.

Did you get a fuel tank skid? that think is huge for a 38 gallon tank.

Well then I guess it was the sliders that put everything to freight. Not exactly shocked. They are huge and heavy.... I think there's a yo momma joke in there somewhere. :p

Call RCI, ask for Josh. You might get at least a 5% discount if you mention that "we" referred you....not much but better than nil...

I went with the RCI bare aluminum purely for the port hole. It was worth every penny.

Love my rci. I would of gone aluminum but saved a ton off shipping (anything to hawaii cost arm n a leg) a guy bought steel powder coat full set, front and trans case. Love them and they fit like a glove. Visually seems like I got some clearance.

RCI ordered today in raw aluminum. I’ll powder coat it down the road locally.

Thank you for all the assistance.

Just under $400 for raw aluminum with tax and shipping to east coast. It probably seems steep to some, but I’m keeping my Tundra until it dies. So the price just for the oil filter access over the next x amount of years is worth it. (Also already have the Fumoto installed as well). Now the longest part of the oil change will be based on gravity coming out and going into the truck.
