20191029_130603.jpg Hello all! My new to me 2014 dc 5.7 needed an oil change. All the horror stories I've read here are true. Oil cap was put on with an air gun... took a breaker bar to get it loose. Put a new aluminum one on. When I took the perforated tall tube out of the old cap to transfer it... they didn't bother to put the spring back in! Once again, that's why I do my own maintenance. Put a new Fumoto valve on, Toyota filter and Mobile 1 synthetic 0w 20. As I had the skid plate off, I decided to cut a hole for filter access. Cut a 6" square hole... plenty of room to work. Decided on a door configuration that would be easy and secure. I cut a piece of 5v roofing tin about 8" square. Hardware store had several sizes of clip nuts, typically used for securing fender liners and such. Arranged 4 at corners, or near and drilled holes to match the 6mm stainless bolts. Bent the roofing tin to match the curve and secured it. Now all I have to do is take out 3 bolts, loosen the 4th and slide it back for access. I'll try to attach a few picures before too long. Really enjoy this site. An old dog can still learn alot here!20191029_092547.jpg 20191029_092317.jpg

Very nice work and good contouring. Haven't seen anyone do this with a Rivnut tool which would be cool

I just looked at a few pictures here of holes others had cut and lined up with those. Mine is a bit bigger at 6 inches, but makes for really easy access. There are a few points where, on the engine side, there are flanges that are welded on that make a double layer to cut through. I used those as guides as I didn't want to lessen the structural integrity of the skid plate. Just look at the pictures of mine and mark the corners. Draw connecting lines, drill small holes at the corners, flip it over, and see if you avoid those flanged areas. When I bent the cover, I slid a wood dowel under the cover, put it in place and beat it with a rubber mallet to shape. One of the most satisfying projects I've done. This, a Fumoto valve and oil filter drain attachment and oil changes are a breeze!

As a side note, I sprayed the skid plate and cover with Permatex rust converter and some Rustoleum paint on both sides. Much better.

Did mine yesterday. Also changed the front diff oil which was completely clean, looked brand new. Oh well. Between this new hole and the Fumoto valve oil changes will be a breeze. I use pics from this thread to cut my hole so thanks fellas, I really appreciate it.

I.... LIKE IT !.....:) ... painted body color? All it needs is pin striping...or...flames? scallops? Don't mind me, I'm just an old hot rodder who use to do those things.
I am detail oriented also; I will be doing mine soon.
I recently purchased/joined the forum after buying my 2015 Tundra, found the thread/pics of your mod, so I am a little late to the party. Again, nice job!
