After reading some positive remarks about Bilstein 5100s, I decided to price them out. Seems a frugal idea, so I'm probably going to pick them up.

My question is, are there any suggestions for an add a leaf? Brands etc I'm not really sure where to start.

Are you adding a leaf to raise the rear, or to prevent squat when carrying? If to raise the rear, I suggest you go with coach builder shackles instead. If to prevent squat, consider airbags. Airbags will be inert when not pumped up, preserving your factory rise quality, but they are there when you need them. Do not use airbags to lift your suspension. That is not what they are designed for.

Why do you want an add a leaf? Are you gonna be frequently carrying a lot of weight? Maybe, if it's just for lift, you'd be better off with shackles?

I was just looking to bump up the rear a bit. The 5100s are supposed to be ok for 1" in the rear.

I was thinking add a leaf because I don't really care for blocks. I haven't done anything with aftermarket shackles so that's new to me.

The shackles, Toytec or Coachbuilder will retain the factory ride quality. An add a leaf will make your ride harsh.

Yeah then coach builder +2 shackles will give you about an inch up in the back, and will work fine with the 5100s. Don't forget the carrier bearing drop (also from coach builder). We have 2 piece drive shaft and lifting the rear will mis-allign the two shafts which can cause an annoying vibration on acceleration.

I'm not sure that harsh would bother me but I'll look in to the shackles.

Unless you're towing, just go with a block or shackles...and if you are towing...one of the above + airbags

You'd have to do a shackle flip to get any lift using shackles.

Not if the shackles are longer than factory.

Longer shackles would lower the ride height.

bobeast is right. You get lift 'cause the shackles are longer. I just added longer toytec shackles to my truck. The toytec shackles are cool 'cause you get a choice of 1" or 1.5" of lift.

Like @AaronK said, my leafs are on top of my shackles. If I install longer shackles, I will raise the leaf which will lower the truck.

Do you know how much lift?

There's a company who just came out with a shackle flip bracket. Reusing factory shackles I want to say gets you about 0.5"-1". The brackets are adjustable. They also make longer shackles that go with their flip bracket..
