Teamsters Local 8 here. We're the trade and technical workers for Penn State.

I spent 4 years as a Maintenance Utility Worker doing floor care, janitorial, and associated equipment repairs.
9 years now as a Facilities and Maintenance Worker specifically for Athletics. In charge of game setups, repairs, pool maintenance, and laundry facilities.

This is a pretty good idea. I've been an IAM local 447 District 25 member for 22 years. I work for the second largest Caterpillar dealership in the country. My brother just retired from the IAM after 40 years in the union, 20 years as a truck driver and 20 years as a Union Rep / Business Agent. He was able to retire after 40 years in the union at the age of 58, he's living the life on his pension. I'm very jealous.

I did my time in sheet metal fabrication for the HVAC industry. Lived long enough to retire and receive a nice but not outrageous pension.

Check the build link in my signature.
I think we fabbed some stuff for that one. Not a member myself, but our company hires and is signatory to just about every building trade out there.

On March 3rd I'll be a 35 year Teamster, not that it means that much to me.
I'll get another jacket, they come in 5 year increments over 25 years.

They spelt my handle wrong, I told them Lowlife was one word, that is Local Union employees at work for ya..

    9wvnis4w_749fe25c0a3fa793194ecd83e6ef5ee5ac045bae.jpg dm18237p_b0ed2ed763d631ff5cef8f2c65cb89af60c5a5da.jpg sefa1eol_1650540f6eb9410eb5c674446232d1867816fd1f.jpg

I never wear it, but a rough estimate these jackets costs me over $30,000 in union dues the last 34 years and 10 months.
I might as well take it.
Gave the 25 year jacket to my daughter in case she wanted to wear it to a white trash party.

I wouldn't have the wages or benefits without the union, but being in a right to work state, our local sucks.
    It always has.

I just do my job and go home.
    Management leaves me alone.

Our retirement can be 30 years and out, but I'm not ready just yet..

    There it is....

We used to have our own personality and our own OCAW branch. Now we’re just an arm of the USW. Because what’s good for steel workers is also good for oil refiners. Or something. We’re less of an arm and more of a finger nail come to think about it.

Note: I’m digging these crests y’all are sharing.

That jacket isn’t far off from a “Members Only” jacket. You should talk to them and let them know it’s 2021.

I wouldn't wear it no matter what.
That jacket has been my my closet almost 5 years and I've yet to wear it.
I think I'm going to get my 30 year jacket with no name and maybe get a few bucks for it on eBay.
Some part timer would see and probably buy it.

These part timers wear these local union t-shirts like they are made of gold.
Like they think the union really gives a shi!t about them..

All the local cares about is getting their union dues every week and their union car allowances.
The union is really a joke in a right to work state...
