My wife and I have been tossing around the idea of moving to Colorado someday. I don't know a whole lot about the area but everything I have seen of it looks amazing. My question is how is it really? What is the cost of living like? Taxes? I know you guys have a state income tax, something we don't have up in WA. There is a lot of public land in the state, but easy and cheap to access? I like hunting, fishing and recreational shooting so ease of access is important to me. My ideal goal is to buy 10+ acres. Where do you guys live and how do you like it?

    Everything. Literally.
Colorado is awesome, man. We moved out here a few years ago and love it. We came from California, so all of my comparison is to Ca, but the schools are better, less traffic, lower cost of living overall, more to do, cleaner, friendlier, I can go on and on. Colorado has one of the top 3 economies in the country I believe and unemployment is the lowest it's been in a long time. We live in Colorado Springs, but there are smaller towns with lots of acreage available all over the state.
You have access to more national forests that I can count in one hand within a couple hours of pretty much anywhere you decide to live. Beautiful spring/summers, world class snow sports in the winter, and more microbrews than any other state .
I'd highly recommend moving out here.

I'm from CA, and we will never move back. We absolutely love CO. We truly get all 4 seasons (sometimes in an hour!)

Yes... Toytec is in Colorado... That should be enough convincing for the wife...

I am used to that where I live and only adds to the appeal of moving! I am no stranger to 4ft of snow or 115 degree days.

Then you know that if we have some snow, the sun can melt it all away the same or next day.

We have a lot of breweries here too (if you're a beer guy)

No. Don't come here. It's awful. The weather sucks. The people suck. There's nothing to do.

    Kidding. I kid. Kind of.

We moved up from CA too, north county San Diego. Haven't been back since. No intention of ever leaving. The weather can be a bit Sybil-esque but you get used to it and keep a few different layers in the truck. There's a bit of a suburban sprawl/Stepford Wives thing going on but we're near downtown Denver so it doesn't affect us as much. It's easy enough to escape it.

I'd rather live up the hill a bit but my wife is a born and raised SoCal girl. Winter at altitude isn't her thing. Someday it might happen.

CO is a great place to live. Moved here from FL 14 years ago and I ain't going back. It is getting a little crowded since I moved here due to all the folks moving to this great state. If you're ever in town, we can give you a tour. As long as you don't move to Alma like Mark you're good.

Oh yeah spring in my next of the woods is unpredictable. I certainly am a beer guy! I am a hop head and love trying new beers, I even brew my own from time to time.

I split my time between Phoenix Az. and Lafayette Colorado. I will definitely retire there eventually. Boulder county is a pretty place to live but it can be expensive. I got in just before everything went completely crazy the foothills are spectacular.

I suggest getting on Realtor.com and checking out homes and what not. There you can find property taxes, school ratings, lots/homes.

I used to live in Colorado and to be honest, I liked Colorado Springs and Fort Collins, I didn't care for much of the rest of the state. I currently live in Salem Oregon and absolutely love it. Also loved not paying sales tax when I bought my tundra last year as well. 8)

Im also originally from San Diego, but moved to North Idaho before the Marine Corps. I love it there. I'm sure you've passed through CDA if you're from Eastern WA.

Having Toytec in your state makes your cost of living 17.6% higher.

You'll love it here despite the mandatory modifications the government imposes on all Toyota driving taxpayers

With enough breweries you don't have to keep track...you just walk into any door. You'll either have a beer or a bong in your hands in seconds

I live up the hill quite a bit. You should come up.

Ask @COMiamiFan I make the offer but it's hard to get the time to actually follow through. I've been saying that we need to do a day of wheeling up this way

I'm in Spokane and grew up here. I have spent a lot of time in North Idaho and CDA. I love the area and would not mind staying here at all. I just feel a move might be a nice change of pace. I don't have kids yet so now is the time. If we stay in this area North Idaho and northwest Montana would be where I would be looking for land. Don't get me wrong I love Spokane but it is just growing too fast. Everywhere I look they are clearing trees and building apartments.

Are you looking north, south, etc. of the city? We could tell you neighborhoods to look at.

I have no idea. I have just started looking so am looking for opinions of good areas to focus on. Ideally I want 10+ acres that I can shoot and/or hunt on that isn't to far from the City so I can keep my wife happy and won't be a big deal to get the kids to school when the time comes.

Then you might want to look around the eastern side like Kiowa, Elizabeth or somewhere northeast of the city. Once you get into them thar hills it's starts to get pretty expensive.

I love being a Colorado native, this states fucking awesome. Just so long as you're not like the loony Californians we'd be glad to have ya! But beware, living on the Front Range ain't cheap. And prices for houses even out here in Kansas West (aka Eastern CO) have risen quite a bit due to all the damn Californians that've moved here.

Well, I will tell you this since I am looking at building on 2-5 acres in the Colorado Springs area, that little chunk of land will cost you 180-250k
