Not sure if I'm not using the right keywords, but I haven't found anything on this topic.

I was out on a dirt road the other day with some 1-2 inch deep ruts and noticed that the truck bed seems to shake a lot (2nd gen DC) when going over rough roads. I know the tail section of the Tundra is c-channel and is "designed to flex", but was wondering if this is an issue over time.

I did see some posts about bed stiffeners, but seems to mainly be for people running shells or racks. I might run a topper one day, but even if I don't should I be concerned at all about this over time? My theory is, in a cold place like where I live (Alaska) could the shaking decrease the integrity of the frame or truck bed? I'm prob being paranoid, but any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Lol, yup. I just remembered seeing that video when I bought a Nissan Titan back in '08.

My '07 DC was having having the same issue. I read that Toyota did this to increase the payload that the Tundra can haul and tow. With a stiff frame it risks breaking the frame under load and twist. The video @fisherman951 posted is a "Ford" commercial from '09 where they were trying to say their truck was stable under torture testing. I have talked to Toytec and they have some options to address the issue by replacing the rear springs and shocks all around, call or email them they will answer all your questions. @Coachbuilder1 also referenced this as a suspension problem, see his post below.

For Reference this has been discussed frequently, just search "bed bounce":

Read Post #70 from @Coachbuilder1 he explains in detail some of the suspension components of the Tundra and why shackles help.

Wow, that was very informative. Thanks a bunch. I was looking to upgrade suspension anyway. Guess I’ll start with that.

Did this get rid of it? any trade-offs? I was actually already planning on boxing it in. This is my biggest complaint with Tundra, coming from Sequoia, I am not used to this, and not sure if I'll be able to get used to it. Its outright ridiculous at times.

I am also interested in the answer to Doct21 question....sub'd

Curious if a stiffer rear frame helps the suspension articulate more evenly and efficiently, therefore improving ride quality.

You guys can try bed stiffer by Total Chaos. I have them on my 2010 Crewmax 4x4. The bed has small cracks on the bottom corners caused by loading motor bikes and driven off roads in uneven terrain. The ride will feel a bit stiffer as the bed and frame won't flex anymore.

Of course, if you have the dough, you can go for frame mod. You will also need a suspension mod as the frame will be so rigid it will drive like a forklift on a bumpy surface.
