When I have my heater set to windshield defrost and/or windshield/floor combo, I still get air from the dash vents. Not a big deal but it is super hot. It seems like its either hot, or I have to turn the temp dial into the cool range to not get it to blow hot any more. It would seem like there would be a slight gradient of temperature based on the dial, but that's not the case.

anyone else having this issue? or know of a solution?

    ('14 double cab SR5)
    Thanks

Happens on all the 3rd gen tundras I've been in.
I don't know that there's a solution aside from closing your dash vents when the defroster are on.
I think it's just the way the HVAC doors are :notsure:

    Yeah- thanks for the reply..

I've closed the vents, but that plastic gets super hot.. I just don't want to melt anything and it's the main reason I don't pursue a RAM mount or similar - don't want my phone/ipad getting that hot particularly when the GPS is running/battery charging too.

Any thoughts on the lack of adjustability on the thermostat? Essentially it's "hot... or not".

Just one of the little things that Toyotas do. The temp of the coolant is way below the melting point of the plastic. Even if you were to over heat the engine to 250°f.

Gotcha.. Thanks everyone! Sometimes I have to crack my windows to air out the truck even when its 30F
looks like I'll just have to get used to it. Not that big of a deal, just curious and wanted to make sure there wasn't anything wrong.

This is a very common issue in the Tundra HVAC system. I had to get used to it also, coming from a Tacoma. I had to leave the dash vents closed all winter and really figure out what works best on the vent dial to get heat to the floor and windshield. There are a lot of threads on here about it.

I've seen that big deal going from a Tacoma to the Tundra particularly being in middle of winter. I need to point my vents undetermined or close them as I run mostly on the floor or blended and it spills out of them. When my brother in -law faced similar issue, instead of doing all this experiment by own they took help from the HVAC experts like Santa Barbara HVAC contractor, who knows how to keep the things properly at the correct places.

Turning on the recirculate button really reduces the airflow but doesn't eliminate it.
