Sequoia 2nd Row Bench - Middle Seat Removed

Before I bought my SR5 I did some intensive research on removing the middle seat of the 2nd row bench to have "captain's chairs". I did not find many pictures so I am posting some of mine to help anyone trying to make the same decision. Sorry pictures are not the greatest - not enough time to remove the car seats and too much snow and salt here covering the floor mats. I recommend the Weather Tech Liner for the 3rd row as it is the only option I could find that extended out to cover between the captains chairs. I have both the Weather Tech and Toyota 2nd row mat and either works fine. Weather Tech has better coverage but I like the Toyota look better and it came with the driver/passenger mats so it was essentially free vs buying the weather tech middle row. I have both pictured. Make sure you order the Toyota PN PT9080C16102 - it is only $60 on sale for the driver/passenger/2nd row 3-piece set vs. $200+ for just the Weather Tech driver/passenger/2nd row.

Only downside is the leather on the seats does not wrap around the inside edge and instead transitions to fabric - not a big deal IMO.

Am I missing something? What seats did you use? Were they direct bolt in?

I am selling the middle row toyota mat for without console if anyone is interested.

 

It’s the stock middle row bench which is made up of three separate seats that are all bolted separately. 4 bolts to remove the middle seat and leave the two side seats alone. Takes about 10 minutes to do the conversion.

 

Pretty cool especially for you right now with the child seats there! One other minor downside down the road is no armrests.

True. But the upside is I can pop the middle bench back in when the kids are out of car seats and I need more kid friend capacity...

You need the weather tech 3rd row mat. It is shaped like a T and covers up between the captains chairs.

 

I already got all 3 I’m not sure if that’s mine I’m checking now

Very nice. When we purchased our 2018 I searched FOREVER for a 2016-2018 Limited with captains chairs in the second row. They're almost non existent used (didn't help I wanted a white one that was 4x4 as well). There were maybe 4 in the US. In the end we had to settle on a Platinum, which comes with the console in the center, which I'm learning to love. I can attest to the WT mats. I purchased all 3 rows and the cargo mat. They are a must in my opinion.

 

I changed my wife’s 08 sequoia from captain chairs in the center , to a bench seat

It can be done easily and the holes are under the carpet already

you just have to trim where the rails go

 

Do you still have the Captains chairs in tan, perhaps? Interested if you think of selling. Thanks

4 bolts? Are they attached to the track? I see 6 and can't get to 2 of the...so post and need to get these seats out....HELP

 

The bolts attach the rails of the middle seat to the floor. You have to pop off the plastic covers in the rear to get to the rear bolts. These come off easy with your fingers or a flat head screw driver.
The two front bolts are each under a plastic cover. Shown in the picture with covers removed but bolts screwed back in. The floor mats cover all of these gaps.

I’ve been waiting over a year to find a sequoia in our prince range and what we (I) want. finally found one- only thing it didn’t have was captains chairs but I had this idea in my head and now I know it’s possible!I get my new (16’) sequoia this weekend and can’t wait to do this. I have 3 in car seats and leaving my minivan so this is a game changer!

 

I did it! My husband said I wouldn’t be able to but I did thank you for posting this! We just got out of a mini van into my dream sequoia and this sealed the deal it’s the perfect car even for 3 kids under 6!

 

I would love to be able to find the middle jump seat to put between our captain's chairs. I heard all you have to do is remove the arm rests.

 

The seat bodies themselves are entirely different widths,and bench/captain parts are not interchangeable. You have to go with 1 set or the other. Mixing parts and pieces up doesn’t Work.

 

I ordered a full bench from local salvage yard, for $250, have to add freight for another $100. Should be here next week and adding black leather seat covers to match the rest

 

That is really cool. I'm shopping for a 2021 Sequoia Limited. The platinum has nothing that I want except for the captain's seats.

Do you have an idea of how your setup compares in comfort with the Platinum captain's chairs?

Are your second row seats reasonably adjustable?

 

This is an absolute game changer! Thank you for sharing. If I ever get a family wagon I will have to greatly consider the Sequoia now.

 

I had a TRD sport which had captains chairs and I also test drove a platinum. I don’t think there is a noticeable difference in comfort especially since it will be my kids back there most of the time with or without car seats and they do not know the difference! I don’t think there is any adjustability difference, just slide forward/backward, but I could be wrong.

 

I think the second row captains in the Limited are identical to the second row captains in the Platinum as far as comfort is concerned. The Platinum captains have seat warmers because the second row center console hides the power, etc.
