I’ve emailed Scania a few times and no answer. I can’t tell if they are off highway diesels or if they are in actual use or marketing materials. I can’t get a straight answer.

We all saw what happened when Navistar tried no DEF. We got the VT365 and the even worse MaxxForce 7. They did run EGR though

LOL... yes a Tundra owner after pulling another recall out of his mailbox. "I picked a bad day to stop drinking".

    Best of luck to everyone
On this. I've figured for a long time there was a design problem Toyota maybe just can't figure out yet and they've been stringing people along just trying to keep trucks moving while investigating.

still remember 80-plus Tundras out into my local dealer's overflow lot the year this all first broke.

I got an extended Warranty on my Ford out to 2030, looking to get out not long
After that and hope Tundra is back in a position to compete for my business by then. Thinking my issues with the interior packaging will remain unaddressed by then. Just straighten out the motor, give me an inverter on the hybrid and massage that front end.

    people won't swallow anything just
Due to nameplate loyalty anymore after all this, they'll need to offer them value to win them back

In the meantime, people will just do what they do and circumvent via DEF deletes. As long as Joe Blow knows his HS buddy working down at the inspection station will hook him up, it's gonna keep happening and I'm all for it. My buddy is waiting for his 6.6L to get out of warranty and that'll be the first thing he does.

    Not in a 1/2 ton.

If you want relatively simple, gasoline powered, and full size you’re going to be shopping for a heavy duty.

The Ford 7.3L “Godzilla” seems to be well liked by owners and compared to anything in the 1/2 ton market is pretty reliable.

Cam in block, 2v heads, port fuel injection, stout construction.

The Ford 10 speed is a big question mark though.

Why don’t they just admit hey can’t build a decent transmission and buy 8 speeds from ZF?

Yeah, I'd rather go with the upsized hemi after having transmission issues in my F150.

Also, I don't need the capability of a 3/4 ton, and the ride suffers to provide that capability. If I towed more or had a second vehicle, maybe I'd go HD, but having only one vehicle it just makes more sense for me to keep it in the 1/2 ton segment.

It's a shame really because that wasn't always the case. Their C6 auto back in the 70s was very reliable and quick/EZ to rebuild.

sold mine in time. What a shit show this engine problem is. Love when Toyota dealer sales people say "oh I haven't heard of this issue" ! too funny. I still bought a new GX last week tho, Japan seems to be having better luck with the grenade building over Alabama.

Can someone help me with this question? I read through every post but not sure I see the answer so appreciate the support.
My 2023 was part of the first recall (6th or 7th phase if I remember correctly)and last month my dealer ordered my replacement engine. It was supposed to get scheduled in the next month or so. Does this notice about the second recall pause affect my truck as well? I feel like this is a dumb question but had to ask.

No. Just might mean that the engine you are getting doesnt have the issue fixed either.

So is it possible that I’m actually lucky to get a full replacement engine as that was my announced remedy. Whereas the 2nd recall could now just announce a specific part replacement as that remedy? My dealer has been pretty open about this process and when I asked if I could just hold out until I wanted a new engine, he mentioned my remedy could be updated to be less then a full engine. Also possible he was talking about second recall remedy.

I still have only 3 recalls, 2 of which are minor BS. My 2017 F150 had 7 or so, if I recall correctly (pun intended). And my 2017 was rebuilt 3X under warranty for CAM Phasers and timing chain stretch….

I also guarantee Toyota execs may be questioning whether to stay in the full size pickup market when they are forced to replace every engine they’ve made for the 3rd Gen.

Your guess is as good as anyone's. Don't know the legal intricacies of whether a 2nd recall can supersede a previous recall??? If that's the case, then everyone waiting to have their engines replaced would be seriously upset if tall they get now is a rebuild.

Toyota (corporate, over everyone)didn’t even want it to see a third generation. Toyota North America had to fight to keep it, the Sequoia, and 4Runner alive.

It is a safety recall, that much is true, but it is a voluntary recall. While there is no explicit expiration, there is a practical one, typically when parts are out of production. They are not required to offer the recall forever, for those who could be thinking of waiting forever to have the remedy performed, and especially when the company has made good faith efforts to contact you for scheduling that you have declined.

So people with no issue have to roll the dice and get engine replaced with only a 12 month guarantee or lose the recall ? I don’t think that would stand up if you had to get an attorney involved.

    Nothing yet
Gents /Folks have been reading the comments and posts and I'm sure that I'm going to get pushback from some of my Toyota brothers. # 1, this is a great truck. I have a 2023 1794 and the truck is amazing. #2 There are relatively very few actual engine failures. I'm sure that if my truck had an engine failure I would feel horrible. So I don't want to downplay those who have fought through the failure experience .....but the failure rate in far less than 10%. 90 out of a 100 engines will potentially fail. There are many of our Tundra friends who have reached 100K. #4 My engine was replaced at 60K. I changed my oil every 5K and there was nothing wrong with it. #6 Do I think the Toyota replacement engine will last? Yes I do. Do I think Toyota went through all the expense of replacing the engines with faulty engines? No I do not. Business would not allow them to go through such and expense to not remedy the matter. Believe that the replacement engines will last at least to 100K and perhaps beyond with good maintenance. I may eat my words........but from an overview the problem was a very small percentage and believe the remedy reduced that even further. For the second phase of the recall toyota calls their solution a remedy. They did not have a remedy for my 2023 until last November. They may feel at this time, with the corrections they have implemented that replacement engines may not be required. The expanded the recall to include later engines but that may mean since the % is so low that the solution may be different than the first phase which was new crate engine. This does not maen that they do not know the cause but want to cover later engines should there be be an issue. This is my take, feel free to disagree. I happy that I bought my Tundra. I love the truck and would buy a new one with a (platinum warranty) without hesitation. I would and did consider the RAM truck but not a Chevy or Ford. was to many issues with those trucks. Kid

Reciprocal is right on this. About two weeks ago I stopped in to see my buddy the Sales Manager. In his office was the Service Manager who he introduced me too. I asked the question if I could wait as long as I wanted to get a replacement longblock if that is what Toyota offered me. They both said no. They also said Toyota could change their position and give me a shortblock or even do something else to satisfy the safety recall. It is their prerogative.

Apparently it's in the fine print when you sign off to buy your truck.

After driving my PW upto alaska (4500+ miles) the ride isn't really that bad. the SFA makes it a pain on washboard roads... but what you give up in that you gain in having alot more robust frontend/front axle.

The F350 i test drove a month or so ago rode better than my 3rd gen Tundra. Stop acting like 1/2 tons ride like they are on clouds... because they do not. A 6 3/4 bed 3/4 (or 1 ton) ton truck is about as long as a 1/2 ton with a 6 1/2 bed... not much argument there either. They are built to higher duty standards and can put in work and don't have all the emissions nonsense that 1/2 tons have to deal with. The days of the hard working reliable 1/2 tons are over imo.

Compared to an HD truck, a half ton rides like it's on clouds. Especially the Ram with air suspension. Hands down best riding half ton in the biz.
