Welp, added a staple to the stable... Inherited a Pearl White 92 SC400, tan leather interior and a Lexus flip phone, from a coworker and am on a crossroads path on what to do. I rescued it out of a cage and have now placed it in a new cage.. Its about the cleanest SC I've ever seen at 130k mi. still has an overpowering new car smell... Its so overpowering that my kid refuses to sit inside it... I already have a 20 year long project in a 2002 Celica GT, which I may complete later this summer.... Its a long way from a sports car but its a sporty cruiser all stock....

Longer list than the wife needs to know about....
too bad it wasn't an SC300 could've built a 2jz monster touring car.
400 was more powerful but not familiar with the V8 and how much customization is available for them.
looks real clean for 130K and 28 years old. Keep us posted on what you do with her.

I've had 2 sc400 and 2 sc300s. To drive around bone stock ill take the sc400 every time. The doors are VERY HEAVY so watch the hinges. If you can get a set supra TT coilovers snag em up quick. Cheap and awesome upgrade for the 400.

If i were planning on heavily modifying I'd go sc300 do to the market availability, though there is a supercharger or prochager (cant remember which) available for these baddies.

Have fun with it! They are a very awesome and unique car.

Yeah, the 400 lacks aftermarket support, but I do know they share everything with the MK4 Supra minus the engine.. There is a few 1UZs that are turbocharged, but just like any Toyota it requires a standalone and extensive mods....

Coilovers is one of the first mods I'll be looking into for improved handling. Port and polish heads for improved airflow then swapping Supra bits little by little... Not going all out, just improving handling for now. I do know this power plant can handle a twin turbo set up due to forged rods.... additionally it has a certification for FAA aircraft rating... I do look forward to tinkering with it as far as it would go, I'm considering a 2JZ swap since word on the street Toyota is manufacturing 2jzs again, so parts may become more readily available, thanks to the A90...
    Will keep you posted.

How about the V35A that's rumored to be going into the 2022 tundra?

I would just leave it as is. Too expensive to make power on the UZ series. If you’re really looking to make big power then a GTE or LS swap would be good. I’ve got a blown 3UZ that...was really not cheap.

I know.. there is a Supra locally that is for sale at 45k gte and automatic.... at that rate I'd take my chances with the MKV 0miles and a warranty....

I will have to agree as well... Both are reliable in their way and both can amass large amounts of power.... would probably say the LS is cheaper as they don't really carry the Supra tax and make everything 3 times the cost..

There’s a manual TT Supra for sale locally here. 30k miles and only asking for $70k.

Even with the Supra tax I bet it would still be cheaper to build up a 2JZ over a UZ. Even a NA-T build could get a decent amount of power.

Got a oil leak somewhere, probably the valve cover gasket... traced most of it high... so I got myself a new challenge, prying this off again... should be fun... Mark IV Supra TRD strut brace

It's in the cards, or a twin setup... Will probably require an ECU rebuild in the near future, or a convenient upgrade, lol...

I came very close to buying a clean 1 owner SC-400 three years ago when it had 98,000, but I stumbled up a Toyota pick up truck that also has long heavy doors... I bought the truck because it was more practical for me, but a clean SC always catches my eye - great looking cars.

Lol, yes, I ran into the door yesterday, literally took my breath away, door has no give... this thing is pristine I've maintained it covered as I do some catch up maintenance as its starting to leak out of the oil pan and valve cover gaskets...

Lol... It wasn't on my list. I'd been looking for a project car at work when my coworker mentioned his car. So I got lucky with this one... Makes me want another one as well, but an sc300 manual... these seem to be getting rarer and harder to find..

So... I've been having alot of idle issues... Lately its been idling low and will eventually stall in gear and with speed... so I've been searching and have come to the conclusion that the Fuel ECU is dead, or at least starting to die... My tachometer has been intermittent as well, meaning it will be dead, but once I hit 40 it usually jumps to life.. Not sure what is that about, but we will figure this out... I've been treating it like a manual while idling, meaning holding the brake, while holding the gas to keep it at a decent RPM range as to not to stall, and I've gotten proficient at it... I'm looking forward to my Celica being a manual, and I'm looking forward to driving a manual again, happiness...

    dead-2.jpg

OK.. What is probably the main reason most SC300 and SC400 end up in the junkyard besides wrecking??? No start, and an asstronomical amount of mechanic fees and no answers... So these cars are probably let go... Come to think of it, maybe we have a similar issue with no start, but I'll have to research that... Either way.. Fuel ECU bypass was in the cards for last night as I died in my driveway... yes it stalled, and my battery clamps came loose, so I lost power so I was dead in the water in the middle of the street... so.. once I got it parked I pulled the battery clamps, the back seat, bottom and back rest, and removed the interior trim on the driver side rear to expose the culprit... That bolted thing is the Fuel ECU which I guess manages the fuel pump between low speed and fast speed.. From my understanding I'm wiring up high speed only and may kill the fuel pump 1 year earlier, but its 27 years, so it may be time for an upgrade, but not yet.. The Supra also suffers from this since they're twins.....
    Fuel ECU-2.jpg

So, Forums at the Supra site said, clip and solder wires together... I'm all for it, but I like to keep stuff slightly clean, so I decided to scavenge Youtube for alternatives... and I bumped into a jump... Yes, I have so far successfully bypassed this ECU, for some Mickey Mouse mechanic, I'm no tech, nor mechanic by any stretch, so this was sorta scary for me, as this is my first time doing some shady stuff, kinda sorta... Toyota Techs can critique this work, and I'll take it as constructive criticism... I am looking to change it from what it looks right now, because all it has is electrical tape wrapped around it to secure it and make sure I don't die..
so, for this Mickey Mouse project, we are gonna need the following Mouskatools... LOL.. Either way, I have proper tools for electrical, but when I need them, they're gone, just like the 10mm and 12mm sockets... so I found the pliers in the Celica's engine bay, and the harness was from my Celica's old head unit that I kept around for fun.eerrr spares... yes..
    plier.jpg
    wire.jpg
So I clipped this bad boy about 2.5inches and stripped about a 1/4 inch on either side... eyeball type, Mickey Mouse doesn't allow measuring tape, nor rulers... soo.... I got the signal from coil 1 and placed it directly to ground, or right next to it.....

    jump.jpg

First start went great, connected the battery, and started it up, and it roared instantly, which means happiness, at the same time I got my tachometer back for now, since it was off yesterday at first then came back on my way to work... Hopefully it stays this way, or I'll have to go dash hunting at the yard...
    First Start.jpg

So I'll be improving the connectors so I don't have to solder, nor worry about the tape wearing off or getting caught on something and cutting my fuel or starting a fire... I'm rolling with no back seat for now.. getting sideways looks, but its OK... I'm sure they will live.. I'm starting to notice other issues, but I'll test those later today, and will update tomorrow, or Saturday.. So far, this is getting fun...
