Purchased today. Will sight in tomorrow

    30-06. Season starts Saturday.

It was time to retire the ol’ Remington 740 Woodsmaster. Made in Jan of ‘55, I personally owned this rifle for 30 yrs. Still shoots good and true, just doesn’t want to function fully anymore.

Nice looking rifle! I love deer hunting with a rifle. Most of my life in VA, the county I lived in did not allow rifle hunting. This is the third season that they have allowed it, much better than hunting with a shotgun!

Looks good, I just love the 30-06 round. Plants game hard and doesn’t beat you up.
Which Vortex did you go with?

Only a 4x magnification, but given the terrain and woods around here, any distance shots are not only hard to come by, but a bad idea unless you wanna spend days trying to flag down a wounded or dead deer.

Looks cool!! I like it too. And DAMN if that combo doesn’t do wonders in the woods. Laid it up against a tree to take a piss break. Took a few moments to find it.

Welp, May be returning this scope and going with something a little stronger.

After 3 days in the woods and going through the paces, can’t say I enjoy this scope much. Finally hit up a range yesterday (a real range), and even at 4x the scope aim point completely covers the target center. Not a terrible thing I suppose but it doesn’t allow for very fine placement.

It turns out the eye relief for me is a touch closer to the scope than I’d like at 4x as well. Can’t wear shades or glasses or I get punched in the nose/glasses. Thankfully it was a light tap yesterday. Didn’t break the shades (they’re prescription) and I had to find a clean cloth the wipe the nose smear off the lense. Hahaha

Back to the scope drawing board.

That's a nice looking gun. All the Savage's I have shot are tack drivers. Should be a good rifle for you. I love LPVOs but would definitely recommend getting a scope with a bigger objective for hunting. It will draw in a lot more light and make it a lot easier to see your target in low light. 2-8 or 3-9 is a good power range for a stand gun. If you can afford it you should try and bump up to a diamondback instead of a crossfire. The glass is noticeably clearer.

Stayed with the vortex crossfire, but moved up to a 4-16 on a 50mm. Much. MUCH happier.

Nice rifle! I have several Vortex scopes/optics on rifle's and AR's. Just bought a new Remington 700 Tactical threaded barrel rifle in 6.5 Creed and ordered a new Vortex Crossfire II illuminated for shooting pigs at night. Hoping to shoot it tomorrow if Amazon gets the scope here today.
