    Hey guys,

I recently bought MRW Bronze NV305's for my 2010 Tundra CrewMax, these measure 17" in diameter, 8.5" wide and have a 0 offset (4.75" backspacing). I'm debating on running K02's in the 285/70R17 (32.7" diameter) or 285/75R17 (33.8" diameter) configuration. I would prefer the bigger diameter tires so I can fill out my wheel well but I'd like to avoid any major trimming to the truck. I have a 2" levelling kit in the front. Are any of you guys running a similar setup? Simply for reference, the tires installed on the truck in this pictures are 285/55R20's.

@Bailey So that truck is levelled 2 inches? No trimming required?

Probably 2.5" of lift in the front. No trimming on the body mount or TOTAL CHAOS Skid Plates

At 34", given your setup the only thing which may be limiting you is the 0 offset of the wheels.

AT 35" you will have to trim or replace the skid plate.

+25 offset and 285/75r17 and leveling will not require any trimming.

I'm not sure of the exact specs on the Rock Warrior Wheels, here is some info found in another post:
    17" wheels - Width: 8", Offset: +50mm, Backspacing: 6.5"

@Quebec so you’re saying the offset of the wheels would make it worse? If I remained with +60, I wouldn’t have to trim anything?

+25 is the sweet spot to allow for most variation. +50 obviously works.

60 offset brings the wheels in even more and I would think you'd be hitting your control arms before even worrying about articulation of the wheel or trimming.

+25 is what the tundra needs to avoid this, luckily mfrs are finally coming around to see it.

Edit: 60 gets you very close to the control arm with 35"s but requires skid plate trimming. Still works though.

@Quebec I already purchased the 0 offset wheels so I have to deal with it now. Most forums have been saying that negative offset doesn’t negatively affect wheel rub. I’m assuming the 34’s with 0 offset would be tight but fine, fill up the wheel well nicely.

No rubbing with 285/75/17 on +25 Icon Rebounds and Bilstein 6112s set at 1.9”. I removed the bumper plastic liner in front of the wheels before I installed everything, so I don’t know if they would’ve rubbed.

I had 0 offset before on 285/55/20, it rubbed on the front plastics so I heat gunned it and pushed it forward and it solved the issue. If anything rubs on 285/75/17 on 0 offset it might be the same just plastics but when I do get my wheels with +25 offset and maybe the same size tires I will do the body mount chop because eventually I will move up to 315/70/17 or true 35’s. Here’s a pic of the truck now on stocks, it needs small wheels and big tires bad!

MPG went from about 16.4 at its best stock to about 14.1 or so. I’m guessing the 2” lift adds a bit of aerodynamic drag as well.

I really like this size. It’s not too big to require a body mount chop or require more than 2” of lift, but it’s big enough to handle some light trail riding fairly well compared to the smaller stock tires.

I am currently debating between the 285/75/17’s and a 315/70/17. Do you think the fuel mileage would vary that much between those two sizes?

Sorry. I made an error in the mpg. It used to be around 14.1 with 275/70/18s, but it dropped down to 12.8 with 285/75/17s. I knew mpg would drop with bigger tires, but I also knew before I bought my Tundra that it’s not the most fuel efficient vehicle to begin with.

I don’t know, but my uneducated guess is that it may drop at least 1 to 2 mpg. The 315s are about 1/2” bigger in diameter and over an inch wider. Taller with a wider contact patch (and presumably heavier rolling weight) will definitely affect mpg as well as power.

Another factor to consider is the added lift needed to fit the 315s. More lift affects aerodynamics, which also affects mpg. If ride height will remain the same for either size, then I suppose it wouldn’t be a factor.

    JM14,

Did you ever mount your 0 offset wheels with the 285/75r17 tires?

here's mine on 285/75 Falkens and 0 offset Methods. truck has Pro Bilsteins with a single CB shim up front. rubbed the front inner liner, mudflaps, and gets awfully close to the body mount. hope that helps

    That stance looks perfect.
That stance looks perfect. I was debating on whether to get the 285/70r18 with spidertrax spacers and stock Pro rims or this. I can get a c rated 285/75r17 tire (Nitto RG) and method mr312 wheels and have a softer ride. Thanks for posting! Helped me decide.

    Those forums are wrong.
A lower offset will cause tires to rub.
My truck came second hand with 275/65/20’s on stock wheels instead of the 285/55/20. Nothing rubbed. Nothing touched. It was gravy. The Oe wheels are 20x9 +50 offset.
As soon as I went to aftermarket wheels (20x9 +18) I had to remove my mud flaps.
I’m not good with geometry but the short answer is yes, a lower offset with the same tire will change where it rubs.
0 offset on these trucks is considered between somewhere between aggressive and wild. That’s the best way I can describe that. Lol.

I just put on Bilstein 5100s to level my 2017, fronts are at the top setting. With 295/70/18 +25 Nitto Ridge Grapplers and no rub at all.

@4RunnerKid would love to see any other photos of your setup you have!

Seems like a good compromise between size and fitment- being able to use a 0mm offset wheel without too much rubbing opens up options a lot.

Bailey - nice set up. Will possibly be putting 285 75/17 (Icon Rebound or Six Speed) on my 2012 crewmax limited with OME sport suspension.
Do you have any issues with gear hunting or other power lag etc ? Do you still get to all the gears without issues?
I also live in CO and travel up and down I-70 in foothills trying to decide between 285 75/17 vs 285 70/17.
Really do not want to regear (do you recommend regearing / did you regear for the 285 75/17)?
    Thank you
Very Newbie, aka do not know anything...
