Here's a pic of my torn rotator before surgery. Had the surgery last may and just returned to work 3 weeks ago with reduced hours until I return to full time in mid March.
Had 3 tears that he stitched together and anchored. Also had a bicep torn so bad that he cut it off, cleaned the end, and reattached it. Rehab with physio is a must and diligently exercising at home. Mine was bad according to my physiotherapist hence the longer than normal return to work date. I still am avoiding any sharp or fast movement of my arm until spring as per his instruction and then it's more rehab before returning to sports.
Good luck with your prognosis and treatment.

    The details..
one of my homes was 99% complete & my detailer & I were getting ready for a homeowner walkthru. There was some drywall in an inside corner in the stairway that cracked out that needed some t/U.

To get some height to place a bead of caulk in that corner.. I went up a couple more steps. So I was reaching up & out. Lost my balance & went down head 1st.

Everything happed so fast after that I don't know what happened after that.. other than I damaged 5 oak stair treads on my way down.

yup.. filed an L&I claim after work. X-rays showed no broken bones.

Absolutely, I've had laparoscopic done on both of mine several times in the last 30 yrs as well as open repairs on both. I was told in my 30's that they needed to be replaced but I was too young so nobody would do it. 6 yrs ago I had my left shoulder replaced (50yrs old) and need to have my right one done this year. I'm sorry I waited so long. I've been bone on bone for a very long time and it freaking hurts.

I’m with you brother.. nothing worse than constant pain.

My Back was toast after working as a carpenter for the 1st 20 years of my career...
Constant Non-Stop back & leg pain since.
It’s really debilitating when you can’t run away from the pain at times.

I changed career direction 25 years ago & went into the management side if construction. I Still miss building stuff with my hands daily... but I can get away with it on weekends working on my own home.
    Very Gratifying!

I hope, I can get close to a full recovery with my shoulder.

retirement in my mind is really gonna suck .. having a broken down, spent body with no since of gratification of a job well done or self worth.

Hearing from everyone about there surgeries makes me feel a little better about mine! I am going to work until the day before my surgery. It's already damaged! Not looking forward to not being able to do my regular work but, I know it will be better after it heals.I JUST HAVE TO BE PATIENT!!

Your shoulder is going to feel like it is locked for several weeks after surgery. PT will open it up and it will be a process. No need to rush it. You are right about it requiring patience. I never thought (for the first 6 months) I would reach 100%, but I got there. You can do it.

I had one heck of a time with the left shoulder, ONLY because I went back to work too soon. Gave the Therapists more work than they counted on too. I miss-read my instructions and didn't start moving shoulder around soon enough. Surgeon had to put me back on the operating table and "Manipulate" the shoulder while another Nerve Block was used.(Manipulate means getting hold of the arm and trying to wring it off my body:eek::D) Then, had to leave the table and go directly to Therapy that day and every day for a week, to keep ahead of the scar tissue. Make DARN sure you understand what Doc wants you to do and follow the Therapists directions to the letter.Because I didn't listen, my left Shoulder will be at 70% and no more.

6 weeks for the Right shoulder and 4 weeks for the left. I'm retired now but at the time, I was still at Lockheed Martin, climbing all over MK 41 Missile Launchers!

I just had a repaired labrum and bicep tendon tear back in sept 2019. it wasn't a rotator cuff tear, but a very similar procedure. first 2 months expect your shoulder to be in a sling and immobilized. the next 3 months expect to be in physical therapy at least twice a week. im now 5 months from my surgery and my range of motion is close to 100% and im now in the restrengthening phase. I supplemented my Physical Therapy with Acupuncture, Cupping, and Chiropractor visits. as others have stated, find an experienced surgeon and find a Physical Therapist who has a reputation of being good from patients not from doctors.

Take my advise or not, it's up to you but having both shoulders done and learning "as I go",I believe I can help. After your surgery if your prescribed Opioids of any kind, remember they'll dehydrate you, so a laxative like Milk Of Magnesia will be necessary or you'll be miserable. DON'T hold-off on the Meds, just because the Nerve Block has your shoulder and arm numbed. I did just that and ended up in the Emergency Room on the day of surgery(at midnight:eek:) Get your Meds before going home from surgery and start 'em, soon as you get 'em! If you don't already have something at home, get your laxative while your at the Pharmacy. Best of luck!

    thanks bud,
I do have a long history with opioids. I have been taking them for years due to ongoing & constant extreme back pain.
Fortunately, for me , they do not affect me with being ‘backed up’.

you are very correct... once you get into pain, it’s very difficult to get back on the other side.

    thanks again.......Slayer

    thanks bud,
It’s unbelievable how crazy our state run health care system (L&I) is.
This injury happened almost 4 weeks ago.
If it was private insurance. After the x-rays showed no broken bones... I would have been marched over for an immediate MRI & would have an appointment with the surgeon within days.
Here we are a month later & I will still likely have to get L&I approval for surgery.

I can’t wait to get it fixed & put this behind me.
Hopefully I will be better for my spring planting in my garden.
