I have an 08 crew cab tundra with a shell on the bed. Has racks on it and planning to install a prinsu. Wondering if anyone has installed a camper tent on top and if it will hold the weight
    Thanks. Colin in SoCal

Tell us what tent you’re planning. They range in weight from ~ 80# - #210.

Honestly I don’t have any idea right now. Possibly a 2-3 person roam model

    thanks a lot

Wouldn't there be multiple factors to consider? Like...
which cap do you have, what's it rated for, both static/dynamic load? It's not just the gravitational forces you have to consider, but the lateral forces of wind loading as well.
what is the approved static/dynamic load for the racks you have installed?
do you have bed stiffeners? There will be a decent amount of force pushing your bedsides out with 2-3 people up on top of the cap.

Maybe check out this thread. Surely, there are a couple guys who have done what you're talking about and can offer some insight.

Is this the kind of setup you are referring to? I had this on my Tacoma before selling it to get a Tundra.

I used 4x yakima crossbars to distribute the weight along the whole canopy and had no issues with the CVT Rainier with two adults and gear on top. Others have reported cracking in the canopy but those seemed to be extreme cases.

With that being said, I can't speak for the flex of a Tundras bed sides.

Thanks for all the info. I’ve contacted the shell manufacturer for more info.

Also need to consider how cap is held to bed , I've seen some only have 2 clamps on each side.
