Looking into roof racks for my 3rd Gen. I want one that’s super ‘low pro’ and that accepts a single row light bar on top. Send me pics of you got one! TIA

I doubt it. I sent him a message two weeks ago and never heard back. YMMV

Check out the KC HiLites M-Rack system. Great looking low profile rack.

Interesting, he usually gets back with me pretty quickly. I did message him yesterday and never heard from him though. Not sure what’s going on...

That doesn’t sound like David at Coach Builder. He is a great guy to work with and very helpful. Here’s David Ekstrom’s number in case you need to contact him.

I would have bet that your roof rack was custom "one of a kind" having not seen another. LOL

The plexi that I designed and had done for the side skins is a one off design.

Better to call him during business hours, David’s a great guy to talk to, just not one to type things out. As far as I know, he doesn’t have someone answering his emails and messages, probably gets a mountain of them, personal and business.

I checked out his web-site. There's no info about his roof rack. Just says "Coming soon". I just went off of a suggestion to message him. I know running a small business by yourself can be time consuming. Makes me wonder about warranty/support issues.

So far, I've seen two members here that have one. They do look good. Anyone else have them that can share their experience? Any ideas on lead time and cost?

I would contact David on the number I listed above during the work week. I don’t believe he does much with his online site. He has always been more over the phone when I had conversations with him. He may have racks that are already built that can ship out sooner but that is a question for him to answer.

I can’t say anything about the racks but he sent me a part that broke no problem, shipped free within a week.

Just a heads up. One of biggest differences I’ve seen on coach builder roof rack and others are the amount of bars used. The cross bars are biggest portion of the cost. I have 12 cross bars on mine. The one shown above by KC only has 5 cross bars. This all depends on how and what you plan to do with your roof rack. Just a heads up.

There’s a lot of bars on my coachbuilder...

Of course. More material, more cost.

However... Roof load weight is specified by the OEM manufacturer (Toyota). The KC M-rack can handle static load weight beyond those specifications, and it is possible the coachbuilder roof rack does as well (although I can't say for sure because no info is available).

Either would be able to handle anything anyone SHOULD be doing with a roof rack.

I like this one too. How much overall height is added to the truck? The KC M-Rack only adds 2.75". This one looks pretty close without the light bar.

OK, I just downloaded the install instruction for the Prinsu. It only adds 1.875" without the Light bar.

I also noticed that they use 80/20 1020 extruded aluminum bars for the cross bar construction. It would make it easy to customize since that stuff is easy to work with, readily found, and it's basically the industrial version of an erector set.

Yeah the location you take the measurement makes it difficult to compare heights with our domed roofs. At the middle of the cab on the edge it is 3-1/4”. At the dead center of the cab over the crossbar its 1-5/8”
