What can one expect to pay to have the rings on my rock warriors powder coated black? Is sandblasting needed to remove the clear? How about center cap options? I was thinking having a decal made for the centers but do they hold up long term? I've searched and found some answers but many were old posts and curious if anyone has had this done recently.

Sandblasting is required when powder coating.

I'm gonna call some places Monday. Hope to hear what others have paid in the past and how it's held up. I've never been a fan of plastidip but I might just give it a try.

It shouldn’t be bad at all.

I paid 240.00 to have everything in this picture in metal powder coated black....5 Walker Evans beadlock wheels included.

I'm hoping for under $100 for the 4 rings. I also wonder how bad the screws are gonna be to remove. 225,000 miles and 8 years with them never being removed.

Csuviper I'm on page 9 of your 2nd gen build. You caused me to want a rw. It's all your fault

That’s a lot of miles. They have blue lock tight. Wasn’t hard at 30k miles.

Those might be fun. Expect a few to bolts to break.

I would find out the thread pitch of the bolts, buy a tap, run it through all holes and use anti seize when reinstalling.
Have a helicoil kit ready. Easy to use.

I refuse to lift or level it and will get 70,000 miles out of these Michelin tires so it'll have stock size tires for a long time.

I'm hoping that using one of the handheld impacts you hit with a hammer will break them loose but not break them into

4.0 or swapped in something stronger? And I believe you're using the wrong tow vehicle?

I have a 4.0L in it. There’s a LS motor ready to drop in sitting in my garage.

Definately not using the wrong tow rig. :D

Sold a GMC to go back to a Tundra myself. 6.0 LS. They are tough engines though. I'm just waiting for the 4 squirrels to break!

My GMC was a gas burner 6.0L. 9 mpg and 11 if I babied it. I'll go with the small LS 4.8L I believe it is. Still good power for the size of a Jeep. But our Jeep and my Tundra are a pavement princess

5.3/4.8L same platform. I’d go 5.3L. Try and pick one up 04 or older. Thats what is in my garage.

Yep. No cylinder deactivation and dropped lifters. I'd want the drive by cable as well. The drive by wire torque management is a joke.

Only advantage of the 4.8 is how easy they are to find around here and the price difference. I'd want the 5.3 but in reality I'd end up with a 4.8

Well. I got the rings off my rock warrior wheels. Holy cow. Every bolt fought me in the process. But at the end of the day I feel like I won the battle. Anybody considering removing them with a high mileage truck be prepared for a fight. Now to either plastidip them, powder coat, or paint. And get a price on some metal decals for the center caps. 20190101_154109.jpg 20190101_142028.jpg

Dropped the rings off today to have them powdered. $100 for the 4 of them with a warranty. Going with a satin black. Can't wait to get them on come Friday.

Got 2 of the wheels sorta done. Why did this truck HAVE to have new Michelins on it when I bought it? A beefier A/T tire would make me pretty happy with the RW wheels. They look ok with these tires for now though. Decal idea is a flop. The caps aren't flat and the embedded TRD causes the decal to look a little weird when you get really close and look at them. I'll pull them and paint the ceter caps for sure. The rings are absolutely perfect. The bolts cleaned up good with a thread chasing kit I got from a tool truck at work. Overall I'm happy with them for now.
