I never thought I would say this, but I really like that truck. Crazy torque, 400 miles on a charge and lots of storage. A guy could just carry a generator for long trips and spend a fraction to charge the truck.

I have done alot of research on this truck and it looks awesome only downfall like most all electric performance vehicles is the price tag.

looks nice but can't even consider an EV. No where to charge it when I am 60 miles down the beach camping an fishing or out in Big bend.

Looks like an awesome vehicle. Not a rival. Charging still a massive PITA and sometimes not even possible. Still, sweet rig for sure

How many charging cycles will it's battery take before degradation?

And how much does a replacement batter pack go for installed?

With the $1.5 Billion invested in them from Amazon, Ford, and Cox (owners of KBB and Autotrader) they are in an amazing position to actually fulfill their promises (unlike Tesla).

    I will gladly drive one!

In 2020 is it a rival? No. The technology and infrastructure is not there yet to support it as being a rival. The marketing claims are always ahead of the true ability to hit range and features. As seen with prototypes revealed at auto shows, only a fraction of the good stuff is put into the production vehicles. BUT that being said I think it's a great step in the direction of the future. Early adopters will pay the premiums and pave the way for future development as with Tesla. It's cool to see some "American" companies leading this tech development. I'm all for it but I won't be buying into it until they are common place.

This is exactly my concern with all the electric powered/assisted vehicles. No matter how I take care of my cell phone the battery just isnt the same after a year. After 2 years I'm carrying charger cables and power supplies. Same applies to my RC car batteries, my Milwaukee tool batteries, really any recharging batteries I've ever owned.

How much better can their batteries be?

Toyota is saying their batteries are lasting 12 to 15 years. The oldest Prius batteries are 20 years old! So I think it’s a good bet you will get 10+ years on them.

Rather than a coal or hydroelectric powered vehicle, I’m just gonna stick to good ol’ dinosaur fuel.

If they ever get to 1k miles per charge - the way *I* want to drive - maybe.

Pure electric vehicles are a step backwards from where we are now. I fill up in 5 minutes, and I'm off again. I don't want it taking an hour or two. And, the current national electric power grid can barely handle us just living here. If we all went out and bought pure electric cars, none of us could go anywhere. To me, true hybrid technology is the next step, where a small gas engine and kinetic energy are charging your batteries. But, we all seem to have jumped past this (mainly because of Tesla). I can't stand it when people say "free charging stations". It's not free! Who is paying for these stations? We are! And this electricity comes from nuclear or coal powered factories, with some supplemental solar, wind, or natural gas. And the batteries in these vehicles? The nickel comes from strip mining. Electric cars aren't cleaner. They're just shifting the dirt around.

Something to consider, in my state, and many others, you pay additional taxes, yearly, on electric vehicles. Because you are not paying road taxes when purchasing fuel

It's interesting for sure but it would be quite a stretch to call it a competitor to the Tundra. This is almost in a class by itself.

The tundra is a reliable, gas guzzling, 13 year old proven design. EV is new technology, hardly proven yet.

If I've said it once I've said it one thousand times:

    - 500+ kilometers to a charge
    - zero to full charge in 10 minutes
    - charging stations available at every current fuel station location
    - no reduction in range or charge times at temperatures down to -50 Celsius.
    - price point of no more than $40,000 for a mid range equipped crew cab, 4x4 model.
    - no increase in the amount I pay for my electricity (no extra taxes, no bumping the rates, no usage limits etc)

Until I get all of those, I'll stick with gasoline powered vehicles. Without the range and cold weather operability, electric vehicles are useless to me.

Ford investing in the Rivian is a deal breaker for me as well. I will never have anything, no matter how remote, to do with owning a Ford vehicle again.

Can I charge it in Baja? No. Not interested in it, yet. EV is the future, but the infrastructure just is not there and the charging takes too long. I don't have a garage with power (I rent) and I work in construction, where the hell am I supposed to "refuel"? The jobsite that isn't built yet or spend 2-3 hours once or twice a week at a charging station? Every EV vehicle should have a solar panel roof IMHO.

That said, I do like all the storage in it.

And this is really freaking cool: https://stories.rivian.com/adventurous-together/photos/6266864

I belive EVs are just around the corner, I truly would love to have the 0 to 60 in 3 seconds but think the -30 winters in Minnesota could take its toll on the batteries. Speaking of batteries, I belive there will be a great shortage of them but also belive it will drive the technology to create bettor replacements. Why couldn't they make a charging station like the Rooba vacuum cleaner that could be mounted on the roof or floor of your garage instead of physically plugging it in, or bettor yet make a universal battery pack replaceable like a power tool at a stations with donuts.
