    Air filter replaced
    Spark plug replaced
Fuel tank drained and replaced w new fuel
    Seafoamed
    Gas cap off same results
    Air filter off same results

This occurred to me last night going to replace the lines as well today. Hopefully this helps.

I also was thinking maybe it’s the 85octane?

So I have a zero turn cub cadet that did similar things. It would only run for 40 or so minutes and sputter and die.
Then wouldn’t hot start…..had to let it cool down and then it would run for a few more minutes and stall.

i did literally everything you did - magneto is a good guess and cheap enough to replace to see if it solves the problem. Mine ended up being an oil issue - I drained the oil and replaced with a new filter and oil. Turns out it was a low oil issue where it would overheat and stall the engine. I am burning oil somewhere and have to replace a couple ounces here and there. No problems since. Still have no idea why / how it’s burning and I don’t have any leaks anywhere that I can see - no splatter, drips or anything outwardly noticeable……..but haven’t had an issue since I did all that.

Also, if you haven’t done so already. make sure you take off the engine cover and clear all the leaves, grass and debris. That can choke off the engine and cause it to stall as well.

One other thing - the gas can “varnish” the inside of the tank. The flakes of varnish can get in the gas lines and cause a blockage or choke off fuel delivery. If you replaced the filter, I would go ahead and replace the fuel lines as well. Never know what’s hiding in those either……

I always use premium in my motorized yard equipment.

    I totally agree with ColoradoTJ.

I stopped using all ethanol's for the same or similar reasons and use only ethanol free 90+ gasoline in all my yard equipment.

    Problems fixed.

Disconnect the fuel lines and blow them out with a compressor, double check air flow, check ignition wires and all connections. Fresh oil drain and filter always helps as well as 91+ octane.

Good info here thanks. Going to try the oil and filter today. My initial thought with those issues you mentioned would be to overheating, my mower doesn’t run long enough to get over heated. I’m getting spark, So electric is out. The air doesn’t seem to be an issue to I’ve pretty much narrowed down to what think is a fuel issue.

I’m thinking this may be likely the issue… or atleast part of it

I hate to admit it but all these issues have me seriously looking at electric riding mowers :crapstorm:

I thought the same thing……until I went and priced them! If you can do with a push mower (I can’t) then they’re much more reasonable. But the riders are in the 4-5k range

As stated previously, make sure your fuel line is clear and fresh line with no leaks. Check your gas tank and make sure you don't have any debris floating around near the pickup tube. Sometimes letting a tractor sit will allow enough gas to trickle past a obstruction and it will run good for a bit then be starved for fuel and sputter. I found a piece of a gas can nozzle stuck in a JD 262 pickup tube after checking the entire gas line. It sucked it up again after reinstalling and luckily I checked it again and got it out of the tank and some other debris as well. Ran great after and still does. Simple thing to check.

There ended up being varnish partially blocking the gas tank nipple for the fuel lines. Cleared it out, replaced the fuel lines. She purrs like a kitten now

thanks for all the suggestions and help :hattip:
