Planning on getting either 5100 or 6112 for my truck I just got. Is 6112 that much better in ride quality? Mainly concerned about comfort wise. I’ve had 5100 in my f150 and ride wasn’t all that bad. I’m not really worried about handling department since I don’t drive it like a race car.

Truck will be on the pavement pretty much 100% of the time.

Probably getting 18’s to soften up too.

Depends what your plans are for your truck. Lots of threads on this subject here. Type it into the search bar and you’ll get tons of info.

I’ve done searching on this forum. Not much feedbacks regarding of ride quality wise. I know it won’t be like driving Chevy truck which is super comfy

The 6112’s will give a little stiffer ride on the road but if you take it off-road they’re great. They can take a beating.
    I don’t have the 5100 so I can’t help you there.

I’ve had 5100s. They rode ok in my opinion. I now have 6112s and the difference is incredible. The larger valve body combined with the new Eibach spring provides for a much better riding front suspension. On road, it is very comfortable in my opinion. More so than the 5100. Off road is great as well. Rebound is smooth and transition into and out of rough terrain is handled very well.

I've been leaning towards the 6612's and Danny that might have been the swaying vote. I'm usually a bigger is better kinda guy. I don't need an overkill suspension since in mostly drive in Omaha, aka pothole city, they are shutting down streets this year because they are so bad . But driving to work and latley out of town for work and staying with my grandma on gravel roads I'd like to upgrade to a bette suspension and tires than stock to get the most out of my newish truck. I had Cooper AT3's on my Silverado and would like to get some better traction on the Tundra . The 6612 wheels and tire thread have given me way to many ideas . The SCS Ray 10's and some 34 to 35 inch tires have left me drooling way to many nights .

I feel just the opposite. `5100 are stiffer than my 6112's on road. My 6112's ride as good if not better than the Icon coilovers I had before.

Thanks man. I thought 6112 came with Bilstein Springs. Did you swap it out with eibach?

I don’t mind spending extra to have not so bumpy suspensions. Price is pretty much double so I was wondering if it’s that much if difference to be worth it or not

Same here. My 6112s are very pleasant on road. My truck rides more like a luxury sedan than it does a truck lol.

The springs that come with them are Eibach springs.

They are printed with Bilstein on them. But they are supplied by Eibach.

Reporting back after installing 6112/5100 combo. Still on stock tires(whatever it comes on TRD Pro wheels). Ride wise it def got little stiffer. Little bump on the roads are little more pronounced but not where chip your teeth bad. Got little boucier and that’s pretty much it. I’m sure it gets little more stiffer once I put AT tires on. After all it’s not really bad and I’m sure I’ll get used to it and by next week, I won’t be able to tell much difference.

I am assuming you lifted the truck during the installation? Until I got mine aligned correctly, it rode rougher after a 3" lift.

Thats Dirty Deeds forearm in the picture, so you can tell how massive the shock body is. 6112s with their Eibach springs.

Find a dip that normally is pretty rough or some rail road tracks that you usually slow way down for. Hit it harder with that new suspension set up and you’ll have a huge smile on your face.

I’ll give a go when I get alignment and new tires. Just wanted update this thread since nobody really do it.

Not much difference but stocker was def smoother.

I’ll report back when I get tires and alignment done.

    Installation was not hard either.

Man, if you think stock was smoother than the 6112s....then something’s wrong lol. Unless you’re on top setting with a bunch of shims. But 1.9” rides like butter and blew the stock TRD bilsteins out the water in terms of comfort.

I don't have my 6112s installed yet but went with them for improved ride. The limited has the stock black Tokicos. I already replaced the rear with Bilstein 5100 and could tell a difference immediately but one of the stock shocks had no rebound. I'm pretty sure one of the front is blown out too as the front rides noticeably rougher than the back. When I have the 6112s assembled was going to go with the 1.3" setting. Was worried the 5100 would be too harsh preloading the stock spring.

Not sure what type of road you are driving but stock black one was softer for sure. I’m on 1.9 setting with one shim on driver side. Nothing too crazy. I’ll report back when I get new tires and alignment done

I would imagine the black shocks in new condition would ride smooth, but after 76,000 the one in the back had no rebound and I am sure one of the front is shot too. Was thinking of going 1.3" for the softer ride instead of 1.9". Too many rough PA roads.

Like I said, it’s not bad at all. Difference are minimal imo. Just little stiffer and that’s about it. I’m sure you’ll feel difference if your shocks are done

Had 5100 on my taco and switched them out after 75k to 6112. 6112 hands down was a better ride in every way.
The tundra currently has 5100 and I'm hoping within the next few months to get the 6112 on there as well. It's a solid shock

I have 6112's with LT275/65r20 tires at 50 psi. The ride is better than stock, and that's not a placebo effect -- my wife noticed the ride quality immediately.

Can't speak for the 5100's but love my 6112's, the ride is firm and takes pot holes like like a champ!

Bumping this. Anyone else have an opinion in this topic? Don't do any offloading but want a softer set up. I had the 4xxxx on my taco and thought it was super smooth but am considering the 5xxx or 6xxx for the tundra
