Hello, I have a 2017 Tundra that I put a 6 inch Pro Comp lift a year ago and now I removed the lift because I could not get used to it and missed the factory ride and saved the piece that I cut out. How hard would it be to be to reweld it? I have the piece with me to weld but would need a shop to reweld since I do not know how to weld it.
    Here are some pics.

I think it would be very difficult because you can't weld some sections of it, like the top part. You'd have to remove the engine to get to it.
@snivilous might have better input since he actually knows how to weld.

Hahahahaha, I didn't know what I was in for being tagged; "snivilous can weld, ask him". Awesome  I'm honored that I was the one referenced out of I'm sure thousands who can weld on the forum lol

OP that would be an easy couple hours. The shop should bevel the frame side, bevel the part you have, throw a weld on it and you're good to go. If it was me I would add some overlays (often called fish plates, like diamond shaped pieces that go over the weld and are welded on, just so you have more than a butt weld holding the metal together). There's nothing that needs very exacting tolerances since it's just the cross member, and with how clean it looks like you cut it it'll be a walk in the park. I forget if anything mounts to that (like skids?), if anything does bring those pieces so they can be used as guide parts when tacking.

If you brought that to me... I'd probably estimate like $400 with the MIG (figure $100hr x 4 hours?) that seems reasonable. Grinding, sanding, acetone, tack/fitment, weld, plasma cut overlays, weld those. Without crawling under my truck and based on your pictures I don't see anything overly bitchy to reach.

That's the crossmember where the front diff rear mount bolts to.

Nice. I have the zone off-road 5” lift(same as BDS) and at one point I was going to take it off and he was gonna do the work. He knows his stuff.

Near St George Utah, but I don't usually do fabrication work, I just happen to have the toys and play with them :D for real any halfway competent shop should be able to do this easily. Look around for any offroad or UTV shops, or get on a local car page, ask any local mechanics who they know that does welding, guys who build railings and stairs and gates, etc. Try and get some pictures and reviews of the work they do, a lot of fabrication (even big name shops) can suck at their job, so just vet them appropriately. You don't need someone who builds racecars, just a guy who can lay a good bead and is willing to reach the top side even though you can't see it very well.

Piece of cake. Butt weld it with a couple plates and be done with it.

Is it also possible to weld custom weld plates and run it through without using my old cut piece?

Sure, but welding the old piece back in would probably be easier.

Just went to one of the best welders in my town and he said the front diff and the exhaust manifold would have to be removed for him to do the work and is charging $800 for it to be complete

The front diff is going to be removed anyways when un installing the lift kit….the challenge is where the work will be done. Any custom jeep builders or something like that?

Truck drives fine without that cut piece on but I want to put it just in case of an accident or something because the frame can bend with impact and is now weaker

$800 doesn’t sound bad at all if he is removing and re installing the diff. Thats a few hours of work on top of the welding

I'm going to weld the cut piece back in 2 weeks, guy said it will 2 to 3 days because he has to remove front diff and exhaust manifold so he can have enough room to weld it back.

Will be taking truck tomorrow to get the cut piece welded. Took longer as I was busy. Cut piece fit perfectly fine. Frame did not bend at all. Any suggestions as to where the welder should put the fish plates?

Cut piece is now welded back on. Will go back next week for them to put a steel plate underneath and on the sides where the cam bolts are

Hopefully they'll clean the steel when they weld the fish plates on.

I'm sure (hope) they'll do that. Maybe my expectation of fab shops is too high. It'll hold either way.

Will it also hold perfectly fine even without fish plates on considering that the weld is super thick?

If it was me i probably wouldnt even bother putting fish plates on, but your truck still has a lot of life left it compared to my junk.

Why does it look butt welded in 4 spots? Was the crossmember cut out in 3 pieces? In that case I would plate it

I think it'll hold, if it was me I would do the overlays just to be safe and sexy about it. Considering how half assed their job looks I would do the overlays since who knows how good the penetration is considering they couldn't be bothered to clean the metal.
