I’ve settled on keeping the stock muffler on the truck. Happy with the sound and not looking for more performance - words my 20 year old self didn’t think possible to come out of my mouth....

Anyway, I have the stock drone that occurs between 1,400 - 1,500 that many others have acknowledged. I’ve seen people suggest adding a resonator, but wanted to see if anyone has firsthand experience and can confirm it eliminates the drone. If so, I’ll be contacting Keith and placing an order.

    thanks!

How often are you hanging around that RPM range?! Seems low enough to only occur when starting from a stop, right?! I wouldn't worry too much about eliminating that unless you upgrade your exhaust...than again, this is only my opinion...no point in spending much money and time on an idiosyncratic sound of a factory exhaust...

I understand your point, exhaust noise doesn’t bother me when going through the RPM’s. But for some reason it seems at highway speeds I manage to cruise at that rpm occasionally often enough for it to stick in my mind as an annoyance.

I’m going to pay closer attention to it. Easy fix might just be to increase/decrease my cruising speed by 2-3mph to get out of that band.

Dumping right after your factory muffler will also get rid of the factory drone, it also saves weight and adds a bit of volume.

Are talking about just removing the tailpipe or cutting it it down? I’ve read about some people cutting the tailpipe - although don’t know specifics.

Fair enough, and I get it. I would attempt the cheapest, easiest fix first...as stated above they cutting after muffler and put a 90° or 45° bend to dump and see if that eliminates the drone...might coat ya $100 but that's less than an updated system and/or a resonator I'd imagine

Just remove tail pipe after the muffler, and find the right size dump at you local auto zone, it’s 3” if I remember right. Or if you don’t care to keep the stock tail pipe you can cut it up to make your dump. I had the tail pipe from my last truck I cut up and used so I still have the factory tail pipe if I ever want to go back to stock. I still want to trim it back a little but haven’t had time to. I’ve done this to my last 2 truck and never had an issue. I like using the factory piece better because you can retain the factory clamp.

Thanks this is really helpful. How much louder is the truck with the dump? Or what is the noise difference?

Honestly, with the stock muffler I don’t think the truck can get loud enough to annoy me - but who knows.

It’s very minimal increase in noise. And it completely gets rid of the drone. The only time I notice my truck being louder than stock is after I ride in one of my managers truck with the factory tail pipe.

Yes it’s a ‘19. Appreciate the post and link Keith. For $200 to keep the stock appearance with tailpipe, etc. I may order and install.

    thanks!

Received weeks ago, but just got around to installing this afternoon. Haven’t been able to drive much since install, but my initial impression is that it’s perfect. It seems to have eliminated that little bit of drone in the stock system!

I’ll post again after I’ve had a chance to get some more miles on it!
