I picked up my Limited 22 Tundra around Christmas last month and have put over 3k miles on it so far roadtripping. I haven't had any issues with it up to this point other than the Air Dam error code being thrown whilst on the highway which cleared itself within a couple of days.

That was until today though after I got the truck washed. I noticed that on both sides of the vehicle, there is a paint defect that seems to resemble paint bubbling. I'm attaching some photos for your reference at the link below.

    https://markuphero.com/share/P92ippLyzanMnww2WLGC

As you can see, it's pretty consistent throughout those lower sides.

    So my questions are:

    1) Has anyone else had this issue?
    2) Am I being overly knit picky about this?
    3) What's the best way to go about resolving this? The dealership I bought the truck from isn't local to me, so I'd have to go to a different local one. Also, it appears the only real good fix for it would be a repaint.

Kind of looks like orange peel. Any chance it was there originally and you might have missed it? Either way, good luck, and I hope they take care of it. Looks like it needs those panels repainted to me.

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
That’s supposed to be there. It’s like a stone guard application that’s on all the Tundras. I had it on my 2008, and my current Tundra 2017 model.

Don’t sweat it, it’s supposed to be there.

Interesting. I never noticed it on my 2016 SR5, but I could have totally missed it. It is fairly uniform and consistent, so that would make sense.

After reviewing pics before purchase, it was definitely there prior to me purchasing it.

Toyota does this on all of their Tacomas and Tundras. Probably more models than that even.

Chipguard. The texture helps prevent the paint from chipping up from rocks flung from the tires

It's like a thin layer of rubber undercoat under the paint.

Tacoma's had these since 2005 lol, it's meant to reduce rock chips.

My Nissan Titan looked exactly the same. I assumed it was supposed to be like that because it was very uniform for every wheel well. Ironically, when I went to trade the truck, Carmax tried saying it was the result of bodywork and would not believe I didn't have some sort of issue repaired, lol (I didn't trade to them).

It’s the same on my 22 Tundra Sr5. Comes that way.

    Function before sparkle.
My 2003 Tacoma had that and so does my 2018 Tundra. As many have said, it is that way on purpose to protect the panel.
