I just purchased a 2015 Platinum with a TRD big brake kit (my 3rd tundra). It needs new pads which means it needs new rotors. I don't want to spend the money every time I need new pads (it is just my daily driver, mostly freeway miles). Can I just swap the rotors, calipers, and pads with oem or will it require different mounts, etc? I have replaced all 3 before, but never changed the type. If there is someone in Utah who wants to trade, I am open to that as well. Thoughts?

What is leading you to think that you need to replace the rotors?

Good question. When I bought the truck the were squeaking a lot. I decide to pull the pads and clean and grease everything. Since I was doing that much work I decided to replace the pads as well. I did that and bedded them. Even after all that the squeaking was still there. I took it to Big O and they said the rotors were warped. I don't have the shuddering or shaking that typically comes with warped rotors, just the noise. They aren't as bad after 2 weeks, but still have some noise. I was also told that when I replace the pads I have to replace the rotors?

Have you tried having the rotors turned?

If they’re squeaking when you apply the brakes I would assume the pads aren’t lubed enough.
You aren’t required to replace the rotors when you replace the pads. It is however recommended to have them resurfaced when you replace the pads. That way the new pads have a new surface to bed in to.
My local oriellys turns them for $15 each.

Also in response to your main question.. I don’t see why the non TRD brakes wouldn’t just bolt on to replace the big brake kit.

Thanks a ton for the advice. I just called Oriellys and they turn drilled and slotted rotors. I will give that a shot. Follow up question then. I have run the new pads on these rotors for about 2 weeks. Do I need to replace the pads again?

Make sure they know you have two piece rotors.

Our wheels are hub centric, so I'd assume the rotors are.......

Yes they are hub centric rotors.
As for the pads.. they’re probably still okay. When I did a similar thing like you are doing, I took an 80G sandpaper block to the pads to knock off a tiny bit of the material in an effort to get down to fresh material. I don’t know if this is right or wrong but I’ve put 2500 miles on the car since then and the brakes work great. YMMV.

It’ll cost more to buy stock calipers and rotors than just new rotors. I think the bbk rotors are less than $200 a piece while just stock calipers are around $400.

Once you go black you never go back.
With my limited experience taking rotors to chain auto part stores to be turned they always told me my rotors were too thin to turn but they would out of the goodness of their heart sell me new ones.

Why would someone put a $2800 big brake kit on a Tundra?

Thanks for the additional feedback. The guy at Oreilly thought the TRD rotors would be thick enough. Fingers crossed. The TRD BB rotors are about $300 a piece. I have no idea why they are on there. The original owner put them, TRD dual exhaust (which I do like), TRD sway bar, and TRD air filter on it.

I'm not sure what the kit costs but mine has one the PO installed and Holy Crap! The stopping power is night and day difference from my last Tundra. Mine did squeek for a bit but like @Scuba said I just used a sanding block to get to new material on the pads and it stopped.

Last time I checked the kit was discontinued.

I have a customer that we took the BBK system off the truck and put a stock system on. You can buy reman calipers with pads and good rotors for way less than OE Toyota parts. I ran the Raybestos calipers and rotors on my 08 for years.

Too bad these don’t fit inside 18” wheels (from your link). Otherwise, I would consider meeting up and trading with you.

I meant I was interested, but I’m running the 18” TRD BBS wheels and wished they would clear, but from Toyota’s statement that’s not the case.

2016+ model years have different size bolts that mount to the spindle.

I have a 2014 that came with the BBK. I wanted 17” wheels so the big brakes had to go. I found a set of 2016 oem take-offs on eBay for a good price. They had minimal use so I looked at part numbers to make sure it would fit. The 07-15 and 16+ have different numbers but nobody could tell me why. A few people said it was probably just a different supplier. So I bought the 2016 brake setup off eBay and attempted to install it. It didn’t work. I found a set off a 2014 and installed those with no issues.

So now I have a set of 2016+ brakes sitting in my garage. Anybody want them? Ha

CST makes a "spacer" bolt that fixes the different sized bolts issue.

sounds like you’d only be able to use that if you had a 2016+ Tundra... also, I couldn’t find it on their website. Do you have info on that? I was curious to see their solution.

It's not listed separately on their website, but I called and ordered a set. It's only if you have 2015 and older and are buying something 2016+

Ah interesting. Oh well, getting the correct 07-15 calipers solved my issue.
