Hey all, figured it be cool to set up a local reno / northern Nevada thread. The Tacoma world one was a pretty solid resource.

Anyone here have experience with Sacramento spring? Looking at getting a custom leaf pack done through them for my camper shell build out. Not too far of a drive for a day trip.

Anyone know if Barney Riley is open to the hot spring from the 395 side?

Might be kind of sketchy getting out there with the recent snow and river levels.. We went about 2 weeks ago with no issues.

That's the best time to go! Making your own tracks through all that powder.
Any fire damage at the hot spring?

All the springs in that area are fine. It’s been pretty crowded every time we go. Scared to take my new stock tundra back there… Been using the 4Runner.

Can anybody recommend a reputable shop to mount/balance tires? I was looking at a mobile mounting service since I have the wheels already and might do an online tire purchase. Thanks in advance. I see a lot of nice Tundras around.

BTW, for those with Kings. Do they get squeaky in this weather?

I have had kings on my last 2 trucks without any issues. UCAs are most likely going to be the source of squeaking if you go away from stock.

But, with that being said, good maintenance goes a long way. I have had 2 sets of SPC light racing and 2 sets of TC uniballs. Prefer the uniballs just have to keep them clean and lubed up (insert any jokes about uniballs, lube and how you use it).

I got the Dirt King control arms and just lubed my uniballs the other day. I gotta do the grease injection on the bushings though. It's been roughly a year.

Do you folks drive in 4hi when the roads are slick due to rain/ice?

I almost never drive in 4 wheel drive when on the actual road. But, 4hi would be appropriate.

what do you think the minimum lift / tire is needed for a tundra to get back there without beating on the skids ? Still getting use to the longer wheel base driving around. I’d imagine some potential departure / approach issues but hard to say as I’m use to Tacoma’s and 4Runners.

Without snow Barney Riley from the 395 side is just a dirt road so nothing to scrape. I went last year with a stock height T4R and we were in deep snow. I was up front plowing the course. We had to put on chains.

    Major subscribe here. Hell yea.

Dolan just got me a black on gray limited crewmax off-road set to be built mid January. Then going to take it to Folbeck as I always do and get it fully modified like my 2019 was.

Anyone have trail info on Upper Bronco Canyon? I’m talking about the harder “hidden” version, not lower Bronco Canyon.

I don’t have any direct trail info but don’t live far from there. Above 5500 feet got some decent snow but the south aspects in that area are fairly clear. A lot of those trails have experienced a good bit of washout. Sorry I couldn’t offer much useful info

Any recommendations on off road shops in the Carson/reno area? I’ve been to custom truck twice and extremely disappointed both times. Thanks

Ayres, really good for alignment, Folbeck solid but expensive. The new "truck envy" shop in south reno seems good but don't have experience with them yet (owner previously worked at custom truck and started his own shop). What kind of work?

Might have to give truck envy a shot. Nothing specific right now needed l, more for future reference when I inevitably add something else. I’ve had a lift kit installed on my Tacoma there and I had them add some new uca’s on the tundra. Both times have been a challenge for me. But I’ve had some buddies that have had good experiences there.

I will second Ayres for alignments. They have done my Tacoma (with multiple brands of UCAs) and my Tundra with TC UCAs and have been great every time.

I have had driveline work done at Reno Driveline and Gear (on previous Tacoma). I would recommend them if that is the work you need. If you want to do more DIY hit me up. I have a number of the one off tools that I would be willing to loan and/or help with.

DIY is the way to go  Money used to spend on labor can go towards more parts.

What about DIY garages in Reno/Sparks? Do they exist? You know, places that rent out lift time.

I have never looked into those. Haven’t heard of any but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. It would be nice to find a good one to be able to work on a project for multiple days instead of putting up a tarp over the open garage.

I agree diy is the way to go. I did the front coil overs rear shocks and add a leaf myself. But I didn’t want to mess with that massive uca bolt and honestly just didn’t have the time. A lift rental place would be cool. Running around with a floor Jack isn’t ideal.
