I rushed my way through a wax job on my Tundra this weekend. Now I have wax on my black trim. I'd like to get it off, without messing up the trim pieces or finish.

Is there something that you recommend that will be safe for wax removal on the black plastic trim?

I use stoner tarminator and it works like a dream. Its about $5 per can and goes a long way. It's good for a lot of other detailing tasks too. It's a good tire cleaner, great bug and tar remover, and perfect for removing wax from unwanted areas, I even use it on a Q-tip for small areas.
Oh and it doesnt dull black plastic like some cleaners do.
A good read for detailing. enthusiasts. Detailed image has tons of great articles like this that I have found invaluable in learning how to detail.

This is great to know. I did the same as the OP one day managed to take it off the plastic. But I also got it on my decals that why I ended up removing the big TUNDRA letters that where all down the side. Wonder if this stuff you talk about would have helped the decals also

Something to consider in the future is a sealant that doesn't leave residue on trim. In fact a lot of sealants can be used to seal and shine trim.
If you like wipe on buff off "waxing" then I highly recommend Jescar powerlock. It's really nice to work with and offers outstanding gloss and protection.
There are also spray sealants that I like such as Carpro reload and hydro2.
Just a thought for the future

I have used it to safely remove wax, grime, bugs, grease....from all sorts of areas including the edges of clear film, badges, and decals.
I prefer to remove all my badges for both looks and ease of cleaning

This right here is the answer. I’ve also heard that peanut butter can get a lot of stuff out of plastic trim, but haven’t tried it.

I use Griots. Takes the wax off fine, but if I'm honest - by the time I wax a vehicle, the trim is back to faded too. So honestly, I'm not sure if it fades the trim. I always do trim AFTER I wax.

    Two things.

1.) Peanut butter removes wax from black trim. But then again so does Adams APC with a brush.
2.) . Jescar is the US branded version of Menzerna. Good shit! Especially the powerlock!

Ok - need your help -

I have wax residue or just wax..lol on the flat black trim on the wifey's RAV4.
I been using Chemical Guys Trim Clean Wax and Oil Remover but it doesnt do that great.

I also would Armour All the trim before I wax the car hoping that would prevent the wax from
adhering to the trim but that doesnt seem to help.

Is the stoner tarminator that good at removing this stuff as noted in @Pudge post #4 above.

Going to wash and wax it again this weekend and really wanted it gone once and for all.
Any guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I saw that post above as well.

Is this mess with the new guy time or are you serious "peanut butter" really ???

Sometimes I wonder if folks post stupid stuff just to see if others will follow.
    Hell - I'll try it.

And also - i mean no disrespect @War Machine

Not messing with you. I’m told it works, though I’ve never tried it.

I haven’t tried it because I’m smart enough to not get wax on the plastic trim. (Messing with the new guy that time.)

Tarminator works well, I'm sure other stuff works too. The peanut butter thing is true from what I hear, but I never tried it, I like eating it too much to waste it.
Also @purplenova , definitely look into something besides armor all for trim and tires. It's really not very good and can dry out plastic and rubber

Armor All dries out rubber? I didn't know that.

I've been using a big left over supply just on my tires. What your favorite tire dressing.

For tire dressing, that can be washed of and reapplied ...I like waxaddict tyre feeder and carpro perl, both are awesome. Perl is more available and can be diluted for various purposes.
I loled usuing tire coatings, like optimum tire protection coating or tuf shine tire coating. These are semi permanent sealants that last for months. They look wet but dry to a glossy wet looking shine, but the tire will be completely dry. You have to super clean the tires before apllying a tire coating though, I mean they have to be soooooo clean

Rookie mistake doing my first compound and polish. I didn't tape off my amp steps and there are about 5 places that are now cream colored. I used tarminator and most of it came off. Then I used tarminator again on the bad spots with a very soft brush. Discoloration is still kinda there but I wonder if the tarminator ate through the paint of the amp steps. Does anyone know if I screwed up by using tarminator? And if not should I hit it again with tarminator? 4 out of the 5 spots looks pretty close to normal.

Should I try peanut butter? Chunky or creamy?

    Thanks in advance!

I haven’t used Tarminator, but I wouldn’t think it would hurt the paint. It’s made for cleaning paint, right?
I’ve used this to clean wax off of trim, and it’s done well. Not sure if it will do the trick for you though, and it’s a little expensive. I got it in a kit when I tried Blackwow trim restorer. The trim restorer was garbage, but the cleaner was effective.

Regular old lighter fluid removes wax too. Years ago a road surfacing company left a puddle of tar on road at night, I didn't see it until too late, so a white car had tar all along one side. Called the surfacing company, they were nice about it and said take it to a detail shop and we'll pay. Shop did it in 30 minutes with nothing but lighter fluid on a rag, easy peasy and Cheap.

I tried Tarminator on the wifes RAV trim and it "seemed" to remove some. Spent maybe an hour spraying and wiping/rubbing, still couldn't get it all off.
Maybe i wasnt doing it correctly.

And BTW @Pudge - I quit using armour all based on several suggestions here.

Next Amazon order I'll grab some. I'm sure I'll get compound on something else at some point.
