Got a new Windham AR and looking to add a RD or Scope.
    Thoughts on what you have?
I do not want to spend a small fortune on either.

    Thanks.

I can get a vortex Strikefire2 for 125 at a local pawn shop. I know they are guaranteed for life
    My AR is 223.

I’ve paired my AR with a Trijicon ACOG 3.5x35. Works great.

I have scopes on all of mine but I like to shoot long distances and little bitty groups.
If you are just going to Target shoot big targets at some what close distances the red dot will work. But to get good groups you will need to a scope.

I have an Aimpoint micro T1 on my 556 and a Leopold 1.5-4 on my 300blkout. Have a vortex 2-10 for my next build.
With a rest or bag I can hit the 10inch steel targets at 300 yards with the red dot all day long. The 6in target is more challenging.

probably indoor outdoor ranges, Son is 13 and he like to shoot with me.
I would like to see how far I could hit a target. However in the central Ohio area there are not a lot of long range areas.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
Depends on what you're ultimately doing.
    Fast acquiring, i.e., move/shoot work...Aimpoint or Eotech.
    Longer shooting distance/accuracy, Vortex.

Like others have said, I am a Vortex fan as well. Vortex is all I use! That being said check out Primary Arms, very good warranty, good prices and good service. My boss has one of their fixed 3x RD and really likes it. I may buy one for my next project.

Red dot. Its the most versatile. If all you are going to do is shoot paper at a long range then a scope will make that easier but if its a battle rifle you dont want the limitations of a scope when you have to shoot close up. I had a scope and replaced it with an Aimpoint Patrol Rifle Optic which will set you back about $400.

So many factors depend on your intentions. If your just toy'n around or target shooting a budget red dot such as Primary Arms will do the trick. If it's your "go to", then don't sacrifice quality and go with an Aimpoint.
