Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and want to introduce myself.

My name is Chris and I live in Ontario Canada.

I don't have a Tundra at present, but hope to get myself a Crewmax sometime in the next few months. I did have a black 2010 Crewmax, but made the mistake of trading it last year. BIG error on my part, I really loved that truck! But we all make mistakes!

Anyhoooo, I do have a question I couldn't find the answer to..... Does the 2017 Crewmax have reclining rear seats like my 2010 did? I so like that feature, My wife would drive and I would sit in the back and be limousined in comfort. If anyone can enlighten me on this, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Welcome to the site! I don't believe the 3rd gen seats recline unfortunately.

The back seats don't recline. This is what they do.

+-OK, thanks. I guess I'll just have to go and try one out, see if it's comfortable. I mean, if they have the angle right, it should be ok.

    Welcome from TN!

Unfortunately (much to the disbelief of many of us) they did away with that perk!

Welcome Chris. That's one of the features they deleted that really irks me; my 2 daughters used to ride in such comfort back there. And, it was great for storing the sleeping bags for camping trips. I'm wondering if it wouldn't be possible to retrofit the old rails to the new seats?

Welcome Chris. I have a 2015 CrewMax and just rode in the back seat for the first time in over a year of owning the truck. ( little to much to drink and the ladies drove home ) I was shocked at the room and comfort back there. Best of luck to you......

It was that feature alone that kept me from buying one when they first came out. All of our 2013's were gone at the dealer I worked at and the 14's were just coming in. It took me almost a year to pull the trigger on the 14. I am glad I did it, just because that truck became a business for me, but I like everything else about the truck. The interior, the dash and the exterior. They did away with some of the neat 'little things" like the compartment in the door panel where you could leave change and such, and the larger overhead console has been reduced to one sunglasses holder. Other than that, they are great trucks. Welcome to the group.

That's my one other complaint. I really miss that little compartment in the door. I kept my business cards there. I miss the ashtray too. I kept parking meter change there. All in all, this being a higher trim than most of my Tundras, it's the nicest one I've had since my '01 limited which I still see driving around town from time to time.

Thanks all for replying and welcoming me to the group.

    I found this:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsQ4tHIThs4

I'm sure a lot of you know about it already, but here it is anyway. It answered my question, and more.

The dilemma I have now is: Do I buy a new Tundra and forgo those fabulous reclining rear seats or buy a 3 or 4 year old one. The decision is made more difficult because they hold their value so well, so it would generally be better to buy a new one..... oh the sleepless nights ahead! :)

At least they still have the power back window!

Welcome from Texas! Gen 3 rear seat backs also don't fold down like they used to. I used to store an amazing amount of stuff behind there. Burns my ass that Toyota took out so many great features while raising the price. Great truck but c'mon Toyota!

Don't let this video fool you. Mike Sweers says it is because when they polled Gen 2 Crewmax owners, they said they wanted a fold up seat. I don't know about anyone else, but everyone I have talked to, be it the forums or my customers at the Toyota dealer I used to work for, have said they don't like the fact that they changed that feature. Knowing what I know about Toyota, this had nothing to do with customer satisfaction, it has to do with cost. Period. The cost to manufacture the sliding reclining rear seat is probably 40% less than the fold up seat. They can still charge the same amount or more for the truck as well. This is just my $.02. Not that it's worth that much.:D:D:D

My Tacoma had storage cubbies behind the seat backs....held jumper cables, tow straps and a change of clothes.

THAT'S what I miss the most.

that and the fact that I think the lay flats are more useful for hauling stuff. There is not at much headroom but I need the depth not the height. If a DC had lay flats I would probably choose it over a CM.

Not that I've heard of. I think there's some issue with the track height?

still pretty comfy back there! TONS of room and the seat angle didn't bother me, although I didn't pay a lot of attention to it

Agreed. Plus, it wouldn't be a huge engineering feat to have a rear seat that would do both - fold up and recline. Then you could have a fold flat type thing to cover the sliders when the seats are in the "up" position.

I’m wondering how difficult it’d be to weld the 2nd Gen seat to 3rd Gen mounting bracket, or fabbing something so the back would fold forward. I don’t even care about folding completely flat I just want to be able to use the space. Could fit quite a bit back there. When I picked up my truck from the dealer I was instantly depressed when I found out it didn’t budge forward in the slightest. Came from a DC Tacoma like a lot of memebers.

The only way I am sitting in the backseat of MY truck is if I am passed out drunk (Don't drink that heavy, so never), or my wife stuffed my body in the backseat to either drop me off at the coroner's office or a ride to a shallow grave.

I make the payments, I drive.

Fold up, fold down, or even take them out completely (without tools).... seems like they have a vehicle in there lineup where that’s possible... lol

HMMMMMMMM, just thinking (not a good thing because it costs me $$$$), wondering if the 2nd gen reclining seats could be retrofitted into a 3rd gen???
