I have been lingering on this forum for awhile, and I am thankful for the information on this site. I will be purchasing a used 2016 or 2017 Platinum Tundra this year. Most of the Platinum Tundras that I am looking at are listed for roughly $40,000- $44,000. I have been emailing a few Toyota dealers and they have not been willing to budge on the price much, if at all. My question is do any of the members on this site have examples of what they paid (rough numbers) on out the door prices on used vehicles? What can I expect to negotiate? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    Lost track after #1.
Resale values on Tundras are high. Don't expect to get much of a discount unless there are defects with the truck.

True, but I kinda want to stay away from the TSS. I know people on here have lifted trucks with TSS, but it's just more that can go wrong I guess. One guy on here was talking about replacing a windshield and how that caused problems with the new trucks.

It’s never been a problem...they are all fixed and on top of that TSS is the future of Toyota so there will always be updates and fixes.
The 18s+ are well worth it...

Sticker on my 18’ SR5 TRD was 47,669. I was able to negotiate about 4 grand off and had them throw in a tailgate extender and a tri fold hard tonneau cover. I found a better deal purchasing new than buying a year or 2 year used one with APR rates. Toyota does not come off much from sticker so if you can get a few grand off and have the dealer throw some extras in the deal you are doing good....imo

I bought my 2017 Limited CrewMax new for about $42,500 (sticker was ~$48K). I know you're looking for the Platinum trim, but might help give you an idea. I too looked at slightly used Tundra's but there was almost no savings compared to new.

I’m with you on this, I’m buying the exact same truck this year 16-17 platinum. Don’t want that tss at all, someone just posted a new thread complaining about it and even wants to get rid of the truck because it isn’t worth the hassle. I’ve been looking too and it matters where you live but your prices look about right

Yup. I just read that thread about the pcs(pre collision sensor). Guess i just will try my best to talk the toyota dealer down a little and call it a day. By the way if you get a certified toyota...it has a pretty good warranty...12 months for everything then 7yr or 100k mile for the power train from original sale date. Go to toyota's website under certified to see what I'm talking about. Good luck with your purchase!

I bet if you were to have a poll about TSS and who likes/dislikes it... I think you would be surprised. You only ever see select threads bashing and complaining about it because why would you talk about it if it works properly. I like everything the 18+ offers.. and I'm using it in a snow/cold climate. I believe there are better deals to be had going new, and in my opinion.. I wouldn't let people putting down the TSS differ you from buying a newer model.

That being said, I just did the conversion from USD to CAD and I beleive thats high. My father bought a demo 2016 platinum two years ago for 40000 ish USD and it was the owners truck.

I’m sure it would be nice if I knew it would work properly. But it’s just not worth the small chance that I get one that’s constantly acting up, I’d rather just get a nice 2017. A new thread just popped up today and multiple people commented about the same issues with theirs. Just not worth it for me

I made the mistake of buying a used Sequoia the last time around (the truck itself was great). I did not want to spend the extra for a new one. But when you buy, consider that the depreciation on Toyota’s (and trucks in particular) is very slow. If you do the math, taking everything into account. And if you are going to keep the truck for a long time, buying new (Tundra this time) is often a better financial decision.

I couldn't find a dealer offering any reasonable discount on a used one when I bought my '18. Ended up getting new for about $3k more than a used truck with 15k miles on it.

There’s platinums in my area that are about 44-46and have about 20k miles on them. That’s a great deal for me to not have to worry about the tss nonsense

Bought my 17 used it’s a SR5 4x4 with the tss off road package. Sticker was 38 got them down to 34. Truck had 25k miles on it. Also still had the 36k miles bumper to bumper and 100k powertrain. Also make sure to buy certified pre-owned. I wanted 17 because I didn’t want to deal with the Toyota safety sense things and the sensor goof ups. You might be able to find a really good deal since dealers are trying to get rid of them for the new models.

That sounds perfect, add a couple grand for a platinum and I’d jump all over it. That’s my plan later on this year

I’ve never been bells and whistles kind of truck buyer. Although compared to my last truck this thing has more bells and whistles than I can count. My GMC Sierra had a radio, steering wheel, and a ac/heater and it was a 2013 lol

I bought a used 2017 Limited Crewmax two weeks ago for $40,300. It has just under 10K miles. It also had a remote start and spray in liner.

I’m the same, if you end up getting one before me post about it! I live in SoCal so prices might be a bit off but I’ve found some deals but I need to wait a few months at least

I purchased a 2016 certified (100k warranty) used loaded Limited 4WD Crewmax TRD with 45k miles in November for 46k, in California from a Toyota dealer. From my research, which I did a LOT more than most people do, is that there isn't much of a price premium going from SR5 to a Limited/Platinum/1794. In fact the 1794 edition seems to be a love/hate type of thing and may be less than a similarly clean SR5. I'd probably say the markup was only about 1k going from a like condition SR5 to Limited/Platinum.

For a good deal, the key is to find the right dealer and circumstance. For instance, I drove from Sacramento to the bay area (2hrs) to pick mine up and that alone saved me about $2k. People in the bay are don't want to commute with a truck like this.

If the idea of issues is bothering you I would get a '16 or '17 and upgrade to some of the newer items if that is what you're wanting. You can get the 38 gallon tank, blind spot monitoring, and parking sensors and upgrade the lights and cosmetics on either and have 90% of an '18.

My '16 looks just like an '18 SR5 with the grill, headlights/foglights, and mirror caps. Got the looks and lighting but doesn't have the constant message errors I've been reading about.

I do think it would be cool to have adaptive cruise and the new cluster with the digital speedo but I can certainly live without those items.

My truck is about to hit 50k and the only time my truck has been at the dealer for anything aside from maintenance was for the rear bumper recall.
