I don’t think it looks that bad, but it is something from the 90s/00s that you don’t see much anymore.

I had a chrome one on my Nissan hardbody with KC headlights that had the smiley face covers in HS.

More like the 80s/90. OP if you do this you MUST make sure you chrome it, bonus if you also add a visor over the windshield.

This is my 84 from way back.

I've got the Tuwa Pro Shiprock Headache Rack. Modular and height adjustable. It carries my WaterPort, RotoPax's, and I've attached some handy Quick Fists. Got a pair of C3 KC cubes mounted on top. Quality welds and powdercoat. Beefy. Best headache rack out there imho.

Nice. Didn't know about these. Only thing lacking imo is I'd prefer more glass protection.

What is the purpose of these beyond adding a light up there?

The crossbar can be moved up or down and you can add another. A large molle panel can be attached. I really like the versatility of this rack.

See post #12. I agree, most "sport" racks are useless.

Got it - I wasn’t sure if it was for like lights or roll safety or what. I genuinely didn’t know what people used them for.

It would work for roll safety on a dodge dakota convertible.

I have a Westin HDX headache rack on mine attached to custom side rails and it is rock solid. Offers great protection for the high $ rear glass plus way more added rollover protection than the decorative high $ waste of money pictured in the OP. That said, my truck is being built to work and play, not to win any beauty contests. I added front and rear facing overhead auxiliary white light as well as dual faced marker/turn/brake lights which are fed from the trailer circuit and a two/three signal separator processor that separates turn from brake. If I had more time, I would have custom fabbed my own with pipe and the exhaust would have actually flowed up and out the top of the rack with a little rear facing downward angle pipe up top to prevent rain from pouring into it. Maybe eventually I will get around to that option. Top bedrail mounted toolboxes are now waiting for me to add them to my custom rails. So not only will I have the rack, but also more awesome outward facing bedside storage to compliment the existing Trail Ed bedside boxes. Plus that, the truck will have sideboards to contain cargo. Ultimately my plan is to fab a fold in front front door with window and a rear fold in/out door with window between the boxes and custom steel frame around them. On top of the whole assembly, I will fab a box just high enough to accommodate and duplicate the OEM bedrail system. Then move my tonneau up top for dry cargo transport and also a soft topper for camping. Plus a DIY bed floor storage drawer system for the security it will provide. Keep in mind, my truck has high $ rear suspension mods that can carry it all and hardly drop. As mentioned above, Magnum builds a good looking headache rack. Personally, I wanted a Ranchhand over the Westin but it wasn't available. Good luck with your build!
