So a real smart guy decided to use my rear bumper as a brake on the freeway when it came to a complete stop. Today my back is sore and would like to get a steel bumper but I don't want to lose my BSD system does or has anyone replaced the rear bumper with a heavy duty one and keep their BSD system?:help:

Weather tech sells trailer hitches of various sizes that are like T-bars and are steps for the carriage. They also protect your bumper and sensors from getting hit by minor accidents. Check it out.

It can be done, I think. It just needs to be calibrated by the dealer after.

People have tried, never heard one that works. The problem is the way it works, it uses a low millimeter wavelength radar to provide a wide yet short coverage area, and needs a big consistent plastic surface in front to do so. During repairs on the rear bumper, there is no filler allowed in the plastic caps, and even paint thickness limitations.

Nice, just looked at it, can you post some pics so we can see the plastic panels? You just cost me some money, Thanks!:) My back is fused and have trouble looking back, so I couldn’t lose the option, it helps me.

@acmesupply I was looking at that do you like it looks nice did you color match or powdercoated? I'm trying to be optimistic about this so I really don't want to have more problems. Pics would be cool

Hello, here are the pictures. I will be putting the front and rear on when I return the 2015 and purchase a 2019. The front and rear are powder coated with a Sherwin Williams powder coat and I can not see any flaws. Sorry about the dust but I am not washing them until I do the install.

Thank you, that’s a nice big plastic area. The others I’ve seen trying it used sensor sized cutouts, and no chance of working.

I called them first and they recommended Quality Bumper. I picked up both front and rear from the downtown Grand Ave location. Ici Magnum stated Quality is their highest quantity seller. No problems with Quality here, I just choose to drive 5 hours to pick them up with the powder coat not being nicked in shipping plus to visit family.

I think they look just OK. My issue is if you're going to make a full replacement steel bumper at least design it to increase the departure angle somewhat. The Westin doesn't look too bad, but the steelcraft actually looks like it may decrease your departure angle.
May be difficult to do while keeping the sensors though.

If you follow the recent thread on this product, the company pulled the bumper off the market because it doesn't work properly. One of our forum members had issues with the orientation of the sensors brackets on his 2020 and could not get his sensors to work properly after the install:

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/road-armor-50-off.74219/page-2#post-2124751

I would scratch ICI off the list as they may be a defunct company. I've contacted them to determine how much of their bumper is made of the Aluminite resin but no response yet. Some use cases may prohibit an all resin bumper.

The Westin looks interesting but metal in front of a radar is not a good idea. Also the brackets are in the wrong orientation for the later models, 2017 and below.

Folks interested in a BSM bumper should consider the use cases outlined here:

The tow hitch is one of the challenges to improving the departure angle. I've seen a few designs relocate it behind the license plate bracket, flip up for access, but none for a BSM Tundra.

With only +-4 degrees of tolerance, keeping the sensors is a bitch.

Supposedly CBI has a BSM-compatible bumper coming out soon. Has large cutouts in the areas of the sensors.

I REALLY wish ARB would come out with a modular rear bumper for the Tundra. Their modular rear bumpers for the Land Cruiser and Tacoma retain tow hitch capability. And look awesome.

Concur. Modular would be the way to go.

I think it was mentioned in another thread that CBI's offering would be out by May/June, hopefully they aren't hamstrung by supply chain issues.

SERIOUSLY. The anticipation is killing me.

I'm sure Covid is an issue but I look at it as a plus that CBI is taking their time thoroughly testing their design. "Yellow blinky" in mirror doesn't always mean "worky worky". Lets hope they get it right!

I know this is a little old but for the ICI Magnum Rear Bumper. That fits a 2014-2018 Tundra? Couldn't find a fitment or page that says it.

That is my concern too. There are different formulations and mixtures for this resin and they vary in strength, hardness and other factors. Could be too brittle. Looks like it is hard to paint too.

Sorry to hear you weren't able to get ahold of us- A call usually does the trick!

To clear things up, our Alumilite bumper series is fabricated out of 1/4" 5052 Aluminum Alloy (definitely nothing to do with the resin). We picked this material to lighten the load on the trucks and to eliminate the rust issue that all steel products face. Also, our Alumilite rear bumper fits 2014-2021 Tundras and is entirely BSM compatible:woot:

    Hope this brought some clarity!

Is there a way to completely disable the BSM system without a bunch of hassle or warnings or lights on the dash?
Say I wanted to go full front and rear bumpers without the BSM or parking sensor accommodations, and just tucked the sensors/wires under the new bumper, obviously they wouldn't work, but would it cause issues?

I believe on the right hand side of your steering column you can disable the parking sensors with a button and as well as RTCA in another setting if your Tundra came installed with the option. Eliminating the need for tucking or hiding

And as well as RTCA ? Does this work with RCTA?
