My 2007 SR5 supposedly has a 26 gallon tank. I was driving and my fuel light came on. The manual does not say at what point the light comes on or approx how many miles you have left. How many gallons are left when the light is triggered? I went to the gas station and it only took 20 gallons. So, does the light come on with 6 gallons left?

That ^^ is highly probable. The "gas light" is intended for the least of the least common denominators in society.

My 38 gallon tank pretty consistently only takes 30 gallons when I fill up just after the light comes on.

YES Toyota designed it this way to keep the fuel pumps cool. That way people fuel up and don’t burn out the fuel pump

I have never heard this related to any other vehicle, and routinely ran my Accord down to less than 2 gallons left in the tank without any fuel pump issues. What is so unique about a Tundra fuel pump?

Your guess is as good as mine. A Honda fuel pump is only what 100 bucks? Tundra fuel pump your looking at 600-700. Dropping a fuel tank compared to removing back seat and replacing fuel pump. Pick your poison LOL

I’ve gone 50-60 miles after the light comes on then Fill up 23-24 gallons. The fuel is there....but is there for a reason!

I've never seen the low fuel light come on in my '07 unless it was near empty, maybe near half of the 1/4 mark. I'm usually filling at 1/4 tank and I easily put more than 20 gallons every time.
I won't be driving it much now until gas gets closer to diesel prices again. Diesel is 20 cents less so I'll be driving my 7.3L Ford Excursion. It's tank is huge too, 44 gallons. I go a very long time between fill ups.

I always assumed that the level left when the light came on had to do more with the distance you can drive. The wife's Rav4 has about 2 1/2 gallons left. That's about 75 miles until you NEED to put gas in it. Even the "remaining miles left until empty" display isn't reading zero when it comes on. So when the light comes on I try to go about 50 more miles before refueling unless I'm on a trip.

I would assume it's a tow feature... at 6 miles per gallon towing, I doubt you want to see that light come on and have 10 miles to go for that exit to the gas station with 12 miles left of fuel... probably gripe for a different reason in the middle of summer in a 100bullshit degrees while carrying your Jerry can drenched in sweat.....

As others have said, about 6-7gals are reserved to keep your fuel pump cool. With my 38gal, I usually fill up about 31gal from “e”
