After hours reachearching, Youtubing, Googling and just taking time talking to professionals in the field, I decided to re-gear BIG BERTHA. She is a 2016 Toyota Tundra Platinum Crew Cab 5.7L 4x4 with a 6" Bulletproof lift, 37 x 13.5 R20 tires and now I'm adding 5:29 gears to compensate my tire size, added weight with front and rear bumpers, step rails, tonner cover and other items I've included to make her BIG, BEAUTIFUL BUT HEAVY. I was having a tug of war in my head about 4:88 vs. 5:29. I'm having them installed this Friday and I guess there is a break in period of 500 miles that must be respected. 20 minutes driving and 20 minutes cool down then repeat. I'll keep you all posted on my results, experience and all around feel.

My big ahh-haa moment was when speaking with the mechanic who's doing the work. He simply replied to my concern that I was considering 488's because those seemed to be the right choice for so long and I also wanted the better fuel economy with the lower gear ratio on the highway. His reply was, "488's from Nitro are the best... that is until the Nitro 529's came out because they hadn't been available until now". He also mentioned that even though 529's run a couple hundred RPM's higher on the highway (Tundra's happy spot) and would use a little more fuel, that would be as close to factory that I would get. Besides, he also mentioned that the higher gears would be better at city miles than the 488's so it compensates for the economy diffrence on highways. 37's need a high gear because we are pushing more weight in tire , wheels and are covering more air space driving down the road add a couple of upgrades and their weight and now the truck is working a lot harder than it should be. 529's here we come!!

$1000 for labor. I already own auburn lsd and it needs to be installed too. I have to save up for gears to install so I get best bang for my buck

I went with 5.29 with my 37x12.5. Purely on diameter to get equivalent ratio with 4.30 stock, it needs to be 4.94. But with heavier tires, other stuff and 3" front lift, I went with 5.29. I do wish they made 5.13, it would be ideal for performance and mileage compromise. I do think they made 5.29 to cover 37 to 40 tires, ideal being 38's.

$1800.00 OTD parts and labor front and rear gears including the oil change after the 500 miles. I guess that would have been an additional $80 charge. Premier West Gear in Riverside Ca. Very cool guys. Family operated, father, sons and uncle. 30yrs in the differential business. I’m excited to get’r done!

But he doesn’t account for the added mass. That is just purely on diameters. It will be that plus minimum of .2 for increase in mass.

Who really knows?? There's other Vids and they said don't have to change gears unless over 35s..they said 5.7 is plenty enough power..

5.7 has the power to turn any tire on stock gears, it’s the drivability that sucks when you upsize tire. I feel like the tundra should have had 4.56 stock with how high our trans is geared

I am totally addicted to Tundra Life now!
Well I have a story to tell about my re gearing my 2019 and 2017 Tundras with 4WP. I bought all my 5.29 Gears and Install kits from JT's Just Differentials in Washington. Great group of guys. I took the 2019 in first and for 1 the tension in that place was thick . They dont like Chrome people, hate their jobs, and treat you like your money is worthless because it's not a $10k+ commission job. I ended up getting a call and told my new off the showroom floor 2019 with 100 miles (Dealership to 4WP) had 3 stripped ring gear bolts from the assembly plant @Toyota in Texas. I drove 2 hours to get OEM from the Dealership I bought it from to get new ones for them. Then oopps we messed up your CV Axles but dont worry we replaced it. Was told its OEM from Toyota and I'm waiting to verify that to be BS. Charged full price $1,400 Zero compensation or break for my troubles.

My 2017 goes in and gets the 5.29 gears and I hand them the new Auburn Pro LSD as well to put in. I get a call Oopsss Gears making noise and wont be ready till next week. They ordered new gears and blamed Nitro for a bad batch. Total BS because I verified 4WP paid them for them and their specs and wear patterns were wrong ruining the gears. I get the truck never once did the Shop Foreman say a word to me during the 20 min test drive. Charged $1,400 no compensation for a week without my truck and full price. Drove my truck to Toyota for an alignment and CV axle failure on this one as well. I called Corporate and a wrecker came to Toyota 45 mins later and took my truck to a different 4WP. Axle and alignment done. I will bet it's not an OEM axle. Had a strange vibration in my front tire. Come to find out the tire shop down my street broke my OEM TPMS sensor and didn't tell me! I ripped him a new ass and got my point across crystal clear. I get my truck back tomorrow and I will tell you I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. They are eating that TPMS shit up and will surely try to blame my tire guy for all their screw ups and hand me an invoice tomorrow. I left out so many other issues to keep it short. Come sunrise Hold My Cuban Coffee.
