Any ideas? Had negative terminal off two or three times today while doing work. This tank is about 10 miles old and was filled up prior to work.

Troubleshooting Steps: I’ve restarted engine, taken off fuel cap, and disconnect/reconnected battery.

I have no idea. But at 1600 miles the dealership better.

My comment wasn't meant to be helpful. I'm really just watching the thread. Mine only has twice that mileage so I'm curious.

Was it reading before you disconnected the battery?
When you disconnect the battery you reset everything but the odometer. If you have not driven the truck since reconnecting the battery, then you truck has no baseline to calculate fuel economy thus it does not give you a range.

@Cfincke I have driven the truck since and there wasn’t a warning before disconnecting battery.

Disconnecting the battery is like your house losing power and all the clocks flashing 12:00.
When the truck loses power, it not only resets your trip odometers back to zero and clears the fuel economy info, it also clears out certian sensor info in the ECU. The ECU has to re-learn the info, typically takes 200 miles of driving. I am not sure if the estimated fuel range info is tied in with all the sensor info the ECU has to relearn. If you truck still does not provide an estimated range after 200 miles then I would be a little more concerned.

Be sure to post an update if you don't mind. I wonder what else gets scrambled when you disconnect the battery.

    Ok @RonW

It finally reset itself. @Cfincke must’ve been right and I didn’t give it enough mileage to reset. I did two things today right before it reset; I topped off my tank, maybe 1 gallon, and I drove it about 5 miles. One (or both) of those did it.

Thanks for posting this. Just had my computer updated due to recall and the “Refuel” light was on. Dealer Service Dept didn’t know what it was and said just keep an eye on it. This post helped. Funny that the Toyota Dealer Service techs didn’t know.

Useful post! I had the same problem just now, when I disconnected my negative terminal prior to installing a remote start system. "Refuel" even though 3/4 tank. I drove it to 7/11 to get some Ben & Jerry's, but it still says refuel. I guess I'll give it a couple of days to sort things out.

Soooo useful! Disconnected batt to wire aux lights to Switch Pro 9100. 'Refuel' got me quite concerned. Thanks!

I just had my 2018 Tundra in for a recall update and when I left the dealership I noticed my truck says to refuel even with a half a tank. I was going to disconnect the battery but after reading here I'm not sure what to do. Any thoughts?

It worked on mine, it was saying to refuel too soon. I have the 38 gallon tank and it would come on and "only" take 26 to fill, after reset it now takes 33ish to fill with the light on. I left the battery off overnight.

This is useful info! I just installed an amp upgrade and disconnected the positive and negative battery terminals a couple of times.

The refuel light is on but all other indications are normal except the light and no range calculation. I'll give it few trips to see if it clears out.

    Pretty things
At least the range isn't ACTUALLY zero because the truck is in the shop to fix a driveability issue.

Toyota is always a bit slow to add technology, so it seems to have been a bit of a struggle.

One of the reasons we bought out Tundra was the relative lack of technology. Back-up cam, Bluetooth, and park sensors. D to E has always been fairly accurate.... if you don't consider the 6 gallons remaining in the tank ;)

What other issues have you run into?

Perhaps my expectations were unrealistic. I have a 2004 Tundra, 230,000 miles. The only major issue I've had was replacing AC but that was at neay 200,000 miles. Bought the 2019 used, maybe a mistake, but 6 months later, at 50,000 miles it left me stranded 30 miles from home. Some electronic module. Cost me $1000 to replace plus hundreds more for Uber rides and rental car. Then on the way to work one morning "low tire pressure" light comes on. Stop check tires they are ok. Now this. Can I trust my fuel guage or should I try to keep track of mileage to be sure I don't run out of gas? I don't feel I can trust the vehicle
